According to Yonhap news agency, South Korean authorities said on August 14 that police are investigating an email threatening to bomb Seoul City Hall on the country's National Day (August 15, 2023).

The email was sent from an account with a Japanese address to Korean media on August 13.

The letter said that powerful bombs had been planted in several places at Seoul City Hall and were set to detonate at 3:34 p.m. on August 15, Korean time (1:34 p.m. Vietnam time).

The letter, written in English, Japanese and Korean, said: "Bombs have been planted in several places around Seoul City Hall. In particular, bombs were placed in the restrooms."

Police are searching for the sender of the letter and noted that similar threats have been used previously against South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party (DP) leader Lee Jae-myung and several public places in Seoul.

On August 7, several Seoul city government officials received an email threatening to detonate a bomb in downtown Seoul. Two days later, another email threatened to detonate bombs at the National Museum of Korea, the Japanese Embassy, ​​N Seoul Tower, and a Japanese school.

* On the same day, French prosecutors said police had opened an investigation into two bomb threats at the Eiffel Tower last weekend that forced visitors to evacuate twice in the same day.

According to the prosecutor's office, Paris police are leading the investigation into cases of "threatening life" and "false information that a dangerous explosion has occurred or will occur." Those found guilty of these crimes face a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

On August 12, the iconic French tower was threatened with bombs twice, forcing visitors to evacuate.

The threats were made through posts on the gaming website jeuxvideo.com and the online communication platform between citizens and police - moncommissariat.fr.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1887 and completed more than two years later, becoming a major tourist attraction in the French capital. Last year, 6.2 million tourists visited this architectural work.
