“Autumn Moon on the Border” is truly a festival night that helps more than 4,000 children in Phu Quy island district (Binh Thuan) immerse themselves in the traditional Mid-Autumn atmosphere.
The festival is an activity within the program "Coast Guard accompanies fishermen" organized by the Military Radio and Television Center in coordination with agencies, units and enterprises in 5 border provinces: Lai Chau, Binh Thuan, Binh Phuoc, Long An and Tay Ninh.
In Binh Thuan, the festival recently took place in Phu Quy island district, which is identified as the outpost island and rear base for the Truong Sa archipelago, about 56 nautical miles from the center of Phan Thiet city. On the island, there are 3 communes/10 villages with 28,000 people, mainly working in the sea. Of which, more than 4,000 children from kindergarten to secondary school, study in difficult conditions.
In those hardships, children always wish and desire many things, especially during the Mid-Autumn Festival, when they can carry lanterns, listen to Uncle Cuoi and Sister Hang tell stories, receive gifts... Therefore, when the "Autumn Moon on the Border" festival appeared, the children were very happy and enthusiastically welcomed it. "I was very happy watching the program, there were many good performances by the teachers and uncles...", one of the many children who watched the festival happily said.
In addition to the performances, the students were also given meaningful gifts and scholarships by the teachers. Among them, scholarships were given to two students, Pham Van Cuong and Pham Dieu Truc Tho, who have difficult circumstances and are good at studying. Each scholarship includes food and accommodation expenses during high school until university and job introduction and support after graduation. The total cost of sponsorship for the two students is 700 million VND. 10 scholarships were given to 10 students with high academic achievements, each worth 1 million VND and thousands of gifts including school bags, milk, books, school supplies, lanterns, etc.
The “Autumn Moon Festival on the Border” brought the children a joyful, bustling and meaningful full moon night. At the same time, it expressed the affection, care and sharing of the community to encourage the children on the island to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies and life.
Colonel Pham Van Tu, Deputy Director of the Military Radio and Television Center, said that the program "Autumn Moon in the Border" has been organized by the unit since 2017, with many different names. "This is a charity program, wishing to bring children a lot of love, sharing, and support when the care conditions for them are still lacking due to living in remote areas, border areas, islands or in especially difficult circumstances such as the Covid-19 epidemic center in Ho Chi Minh City", Colonel Pham Van Tu shared.
