Kien Giang The winning bidder will burn 200,000 tons of waste at a temporary landfill in Cua Duong commune at a cost of 55 billion VND, with a construction period of nearly two years.

On June 2, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hung, Head of the Phu Quoc City Public Works Management Board, said that Licogi 13 Specialized Materials and Technology Joint Stock Company was the winning bidder, using an incinerator (electric, smokeless). The contract has a term of 22 months, using the state budget.

Previously, Phu Quoc had organized many bids to find a unit to handle the temporary landfill of 5 hectares, which was established 3 years ago, but no unit submitted documents. Currently, Licogi 13 has leveled more than 1,000 m2 of land and is preparing to install equipment. To facilitate the contractor, the city government has brought in electricity and repaired the road to the landfill. During the treatment process, the landfill will be sprayed with chemicals to reduce odor.

In addition to the temporary landfill, Phu Quoc is facing difficulties as the Bai Bon waste treatment plant stopped operating more than half a year ago after a trial period, failing to meet requirements. The province handed over the plant to the Phu Quoc Economic Zone Management Board to manage and find a new investor.

Phu Quoc has 9 wards and communes with a population of over 180,000 people, welcoming nearly 5 million tourists in 2022. Currently, the city discharges 180 tons of waste every day. According to the plan until 2030, there will be two waste treatment complexes in Cua Duong and Ham Ninh communes with a scale of 25 hectares.
