According to MSc. Le Minh Hien, Head of Social Work Department, Cho Ray Hospital, at around 9:30 a.m. on November 18, a parent in Go Vap panicked and ran to the Emergency Department to look for her child.
The parent burst into tears when she heard that her child had an accident and was rushed to Cho Ray Hospital. The person on the other end of the line said that her child needed emergency surgery. The parent immediately rushed from Go Vap to the hospital. However, at the hospital, the doctor said that there was no patient who was her child. The parent called the teacher and was confirmed that the child was still studying normally at school.

Another parent said the caller had a northern accent and knew his child’s information well, saying that he fell down the stairs while playing at school this morning and was being treated at Cho Ray Hospital. The parent thought that since he knew his child’s name, it must be the school calling, and there was no doubt about it. However, when the parent said they were going to the hospital, the caller immediately hung up.
While at home, a parent received a phone call saying that his child fell while playing at school and playing with friends and suffered a soft tissue injury and had to be taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
This person asked the parents to transfer 30-40 million VND for urgent surgery. The parents were both suspicious and worried, so they went to the hospital to look for their child, but the doctor informed them that no one had come to the emergency room with the child's name.
The phone numbers used by the scammers are 0932.470.093 and 0909.880.914.
Mr. Hien said that in the case of receiving an emergency patient who needs urgent intervention, the hospital always prioritizes saving the person, completing the procedures later. Therefore, people should be absolutely vigilant against the scam of having their child in the emergency room transferred money urgently.
When encountering similar cases, Mr. Hien recommends that people stay calm and call the school to verify, or call Cho Ray Hospital to know the exact information, to avoid being taken advantage of by bad guys.
