US Vice President emphasizes the significance of Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam

(Dan Tri) - According to Ms. Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam is of great significance and will mark a new development in bilateral relations.

This was shared by US Vice President Kamala Harris during a meeting with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the afternoon of September 6, on the occasion of attending the 43rd ASEAN Summit and related summits in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Vietnam is coordinating with the US to prepare to welcome President Joe Biden with respect and care during his upcoming visit.

Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris emphasized the significance of President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Ms. Harris believes that the visit will mark a new development in the Vietnam-US bilateral relationship.

At the meeting, the two leaders shared their satisfaction with the strong developments in the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership, aiming to elevate the relationship in the coming time.

Cooperation in the fields of economics, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, education and training, people-to-people exchange and overcoming the consequences of war... are the orientations emphasized by the two leaders.

Appreciating Ms. Kamala Harris' contributions to the bilateral relationship, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes to meet her again in the near future to concretize high-level agreements, aiming to promote the relationship to continue to go deeper, more effective and substantive.

The Head of the Vietnamese Government congratulated President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and the American people for their efforts to overcome difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and achieve solid economic and social development results in recent times.

As planned, US President Joe Biden will pay a state visit to Vietnam on September 10-11, at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Since 1995, when the two countries normalized relations, bilateral trade has increased more than 300 times, from 450 million USD in 1995 to nearly 140 billion USD in 2022. The US is currently Vietnam's largest export market.

Vietnam is also the 8th largest trading partner of the US and is the ASEAN member country that exports the most to the US.

Medical and educational cooperation has also been considered a bright spot in the past 10 years. The two countries have shared and helped each other during the Covid-19 pandemic. Right from the beginning of the pandemic, Vietnam supported the US with medical protective gear and masks; the US has donated nearly 40 million doses of vaccine to Vietnam.

On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. At this meeting, Mr. Justin Trudeau announced that Canada will send a business delegation led by the Minister of Trade to Vietnam in 2024 to explore business and investment opportunities.

He also affirmed his readiness to support Vietnam in implementing commitments related to labor and environment in the CPTPP.

Affirming that Vietnam values ​​Canada's role in foreign policy, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries increase exchanges of high-level delegations and hopes to soon welcome Prime Minister Trudeau to visit Vietnam.

The Prime Minister also hopes that Canada will create more favorable conditions for Vietnamese goods to be exported to Canada; promote cooperation in new areas, including digital transformation, green growth, climate change response, science and technology, etc.
