US Vice President JD Vance said that the US having economic interests in Ukraine is a better security guarantee than sending to Ukraine soldiers from countries that have not fought in combat for many years.
In an interview with Fox News on March 3, US Vice President JD Vance said that ensuring real security, which can help prevent Russia from continuing to attack Ukraine, is in the US's economic interests in Ukraine.
“That’s a much better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t been to war in 30 or 40 years,” Mr. Vance declared.
Trump puts pressure on Zelensky, Europe finds a way out for Ukraine
Washington had previously asked Kyiv to sign an agreement granting the US access to Ukraine’s mineral resources. The two sides were close to signing the agreement on February 28, but the plan fell apart after a dispute between Mr. Vance and President Donald Trump with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House.
Ukraine wants clearer security guarantees, but the US has offered no guarantees. European countries such as Britain and France have proposed deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine after a ceasefire is agreed. Russia has flatly rejected the plan, while the US has refused to provide final guarantees.

According to Mr. Vance, Mr. Zelensky had shown his unwillingness to participate in the peace process but in the end "he was forced to participate."
"What President Trump has said clearly and consistently is that of course the door is open, as long as Mr. Zelensky is willing to have serious peace talks. You can't go to the Oval Office or anywhere and refuse to discuss the details of a peace agreement," the US vice president said.
In a related development, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that negotiations between the US and Russia on Ukraine are unlikely to begin until the embassies of the two countries are fully operational, according to Reuters. At the same time, Russia will continue its military campaign in Ukraine to achieve all of its initial goals.
Russia and the US have carried out several rounds of diplomatic expulsions over the years. However, after taking office for a second term, Mr. Trump sought to normalize relations with Russia and delegations from both sides have held talks twice in Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
