Deputy Prime Minister Tanja Fajon's visit took place in the context of the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Slovenia continuing to develop positively.
The two sides regularly maintain high-level contacts. President Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Slovenian President Borut Pahor at the United Nations General Assembly (September 2021), Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan met with Slovenian President Borut Pahor on the occasion of attending the Francophone Summit in Tunisia (November 2022), and Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha met with Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs Tanja Fajon on the occasion of attending the United Nations Water Conference in New York (March 2023). The two countries maintain close and effective cooperation at multilateral forums.
In terms of trade and economy, cooperation between the two countries has achieved positive results. Despite being affected by the pandemic and economic recession, bilateral trade turnover in 2022 continued to maintain growth momentum, reaching 573 million USD, an increase of 15% compared to 2021.
Slovenia has supported and assisted Vietnam in the process of negotiating and signing the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Currently, Slovenia has 3 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 2.27 million USD, mainly focusing on fields such as electronics, machinery, and pharmaceuticals.
