On the afternoon of March 17, at Song Than station, the working delegation of Vietnam Railways Corporation led by General Director Hoang Gia Khanh had a meeting and worked with comrade Nguyen Van Loi, Secretary of the Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee, to discuss the implementation of the planning of An Binh terminal station and future development orientation.
Also attending the meeting were leaders of Vietnam Railway Authority, Secretary and Chairman of Di An City People's Committee, representatives of the departments: Finance, Construction, Agriculture and Environment, Industry and Trade, Provincial Traffic Construction Project Management Board, Provincial Industrial Park Management Board, Becamex IDC Corporation...
At the meeting, Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh - General Director of Vietnam Railway Corporation said that An Binh station is planned to become the main cargo station in Ho Chi Minh City, oriented to be a station combining the function of organizing international intermodal transport. An Binh station includes a planned hub station of about 173 hectares and TOD development areas, oriented to develop into an integrated railway industrial development area, dry port commercial areas, commercial centers, auto mechanical services, port bonded warehouse service centers, etc. It is expected that by 2050, An Binh station will transport about 24 million tons of goods and 25 million passengers.
According to Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh - Director of the Department of Construction, the scale of An Binh station compared to the main station cannot meet the current development needs of the Southern region. Binh Duong province has adjusted the planning to 190 hectares from public land fund due to the reclamation of expired land lease of Song Than Industrial Park. This orientation has been integrated into the planning of Binh Duong province and updated into the planning of railway stations in the area. It is expected to have full features to connect the region.
Speaking at the meeting, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Van Loi emphasized that Binh Duong is the first locality in the country assigned by the Government to research and invest in a free trade zone, so roads and railways must connect to the free trade zone to create new development momentum. In particular, An Binh station, with its particularly important role and position, needs to be oriented to develop as a "wholesale market" for production activities of the province and the southern region - where there is a system of warehouses, delivery, and transit of goods for railways and has the function of international transportation.
The Provincial Party Secretary noted that Di An City is oriented to develop into a science and technology, trade and service, civilized, modern city, a place worth living. Therefore, the city must accelerate projects to achieve this goal. Particularly for the An Binh station project, Di An City leaders need to focus on mobilizing people to carry out compensation and site clearance for the project. The consulting unit will coordinate with Becamex to study the railway connection plan from An Binh Station to the province's free trade zone in the future. Thereby creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development of the province and the region.
Railway transportation has many advantages over other modes of transportation in terms of cost and volume. Therefore, VNR is promoting the upgrading of freight stations to attract businesses transporting goods, importing and exporting goods internationally by rail from provinces and cities across the country to bring Vietnamese products to the world market.
Last year, VNR upgraded the capacity of Song Than International Transit Station (Di An City) to serve the transportation of export goods, thereby effectively serving export enterprises in Binh Duong province and enterprises in the Southern key economic zone. Previously, Kep Station (Bac Giang) was the first station in the Northern region to be upgraded to an international transit station, Cao Xa Station (Hai Duong)...
