According to the results of the US presidential election announced by Edison Research on the morning of November 10 (Vietnam time), Mr. Donald Trump won the popular vote in Arizona, thereby gaining 11 more electoral votes.

The Associated Press, a reference organization on US elections, also confirmed that Mr. Trump won in Arizona on the same day. Specifically, with 87% of the votes in this state counted, Mr. Trump won 52.6% of the votes, 6.2 percentage points more than his opponent Kamala Harris.

Earlier on November 7 (Vietnam time), Mr. Trump surpassed the threshold of 270 electoral votes needed nationwide to win the election.

With the latest results from Arizona, Reuters news agency said that Mr. Trump won in all 7 battleground states in this election including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin and Nevada.

In 2020, Mr. Trump lost to his opponent Joe Biden in Arizona by 10,457 popular votes. This is also one of the states that contributed to Mr. Biden's election in 2020.

The term “battleground state” or “swing state” refers to states that are neither Democratic nor Republican strongholds.

Voters in these states can vote for either Democratic or Republican candidates, so both sides are trying to rally support before voting day.

Reuters predicts that Mr. Trump will win a total of 312 electoral votes, the highest in his three elections since 2016.

In terms of popular votes, according to AP, as of 10:30 a.m. on November 10 (Vietnam time), Mr. Trump currently won 74,648,928 votes, while Ms. Harris received 70,915,828 votes.

This is the first time in three presidential campaigns that Mr. Trump has won both the national popular vote and the electoral college. For the Republican Party, it has been nearly 40 years since 1988 that a presidential candidate of this party has done the same.

In 2016, Mr. Trump lost to his opponent Hillary Clinton in the total number of popular votes, but because he won many popular votes in states with many electoral votes and some battleground states, he was still elected.

Procedurally, there are still many steps to officially confirm Mr. Trump as the winner.

However, the US media unanimously called Mr. Trump's name after most of the popular votes in the states were counted.

The official results of this year's election will be confirmed after the US Congress meets on January 6, 2025 to count the electoral votes and certify the winning candidate.

President Biden and Vice President Harris have both acknowledged Mr. Trump's victory and pledged a peaceful transfer of power.
