Vietnam team finalizes training numbers
The Vietnamese team will gather from November 21 to go to Korea for training. This is the last training session for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team, to rehearse the squad and playing style for the AFF Cup 2024.
Among the faces trusted by coach Kim Sang-sik, most are still the same old names: goalkeepers Nguyen Filip, Dang Van Lam, Nguyen Dinh Trieu, Tran Trung Kien, defenders Bui Hoang Viet Anh, Nguyen Thanh Chung, Nguyen Thanh Binh, Do Duy Manh, Bui Tien Dung, Pham Xuan Manh, Vu Van Thanh, the midfielder group with Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Quang Hai, Le Pham Thanh Long, Chau Ngoc Quang, Nguyen Thai Son, Nguyen Hai Long or strikers like Nguyen Tien Linh, Bui Vi Hao, Nguyen Quoc Viet, Dinh Thanh Binh.
The most regrettable absence is probably that of central defender Que Ngoc Hai. Recently, Que Ngoc Hai has not been in the best physical condition, leading to his inability to demonstrate a performance that can convince the Korean coach. The same is true of Do Hung Dung. The issue of age has become a barrier that makes it difficult for him to achieve the highest performance as expected.
However, the list of players called up to the Vietnamese national team also has some surprises. There are some pillars of coach Kim Sang-sik who did not include their names in the list to go to Korea. That is Que Ngoc Hai, the new central defender who was given the captain's armband by Mr. Kim, along with midfielder Do Hung Dung. In addition, a group of players from Nam Dinh Club also did not participate in the training trip, due to being busy competing in the AFC Champions League 2. This group is given priority to contribute to the club, then will be selected to participate in the AFF Cup 2024.
Fresh faces
In addition to the familiar players from previous training sessions, coach Kim Sang-sik called up a number of new players. Among them was defender Truong Tien Anh of The Cong Viettel. Tien Anh was once trusted under coach Philippe Troussier, but was not called up by coach Kim in the last 3 training sessions. However, his stable performance in the V-League, along with his ability to persistently climb the flanks and play on both wings, helped Tien Anh get Kim's attention.
The two remaining new recruits are Doan Ngoc Tan (Thanh Hoa Club) and Tran Bao Toan (HAGL). Both will have the opportunity to prove themselves to the head coach during the upcoming training session.

Tran Bao Toan is known as a familiar face in the national youth teams, while Doan Ngoc Tan has never played for the national team, since the youth team level. However, being included in the list of the national team preparing to participate in the AFF Cup 2024 is a well-deserved reward for the "lungless sweeper" of the Thanh team after impressive performances recently. The captain midfielder born in 1994 is considered one of the important factors helping Thanh Hoa lead the V-League.
Tran Bao Toan is also on the list.

According to the plan, the Vietnamese team will gather again on November 21 in Hanoi, then move to Korea for training from November 23 to December 3. Not gathering during the FIFA Days in November is a plan that was agreed upon by VFF and coach Kim Sang-sik very early. This is to help the domestic tournament schedule run smoothly and the team also has more time to prepare for the most important tournament of the year.
After returning from the training trip to Korea, the team will be reinforced by players from Nam Dinh Club. Before the away match against Laos on December 9, coach Kim Sang-sik will finalize the official list of 26 players.
