Female student with broken back admitted directly to grade 10 at Nguyen Huu Cau High School

Speaking to a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi, a student of Nguyen An Ninh Secondary School (District 12), was directly admitted by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City to grade 10 at Nguyen Huu Cau High School (Hoc Mon District, Ho Chi Minh City), which is also the school Nhi registered as her first choice in the recent grade 10 entrance exam.

Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi is a special candidate in this year's 10th grade exam. On the first day of the exam (June 6), Nhi was assisted to the exam site by ambulance. However, on the morning of the math exam (June 7), Nhi was unable to continue taking the exam due to poor health, and her family had to take her to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Before the exam, Nhi had an accident that broke her spine and chest, forcing her to stay in bed. Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Vang, her homeroom teacher, said that Nhi had been an excellent student at the school for four consecutive years. After the accident, the school created the best conditions for Nhi to study and take the exam. Nhi was very determined and worked hard to study for the exam so that she could take the 10th grade exam.

Immediately after receiving information that this candidate could not continue taking the 10th grade exam due to health reasons, the leader of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that the Department of Education and Training would consider and apply regulations so that Nguyen Thi Yen Nhi could be admitted directly to a public 10th grade school; and arrange for her to study at a school near her home to create favorable conditions for her studies.
