The 2024 Australian Open will take place in Australia from January 14-28. Novak Djokovic is the defending champion and is aiming for his 25th Grand Slam title.
Rafael Nadal will not be participating in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year due to an injury he suffered on January 5. However, Djokovic will face many formidable opponents in his journey to defend his title.
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz promises to be Djokovic's strongest opponent in Australia. The Spanish star did not play any tournament before the Australian Open, he only played some friendly matches with Roberto Bautista Agut, Alex De Minaur and showed good form.
Alcaraz made a splash when he defeated Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final. Before that, he won the 2022 US Open. Alcaraz hopes to win his third Grand Slam title and his first Australian Open title.
Daniil Medvedev is also highly rated at the Australian Open. The Russian star has reached the Grand Slam finals five times but he has only won once at the 2021 US Open after defeating Djokovic in the final.
The tennis player has played in the Australian Open final twice but lost to Djokovic in 2021 and Nadal in 2022. This season, Medvedev is determined to win the Grand Slam title for the second time.
Jannik Sinner is also attracting attention at this year's Australian Open. The Italian star made a splash by beating Djokovic in the ATP Finals and Davis Cup last year. Sinner will compete in the Kooyong Classic to get the perfect warm-up before the 2024 Australian Open.
One player who is in good form is Andrey Rublev after defeating Emil Ruusuvuori to win the Hong Kong Open 2024 (China). Rublev has 15 ATP titles and the Russian star is eager to win his first Grand Slam title, according to Dan Tri.
