(Dan Tri) - Jannik Sinner continued his excellent form at the Australian Open when he defeated Ben Shelton 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2 to reach the finals for the second year. He will compete for the trophy with Alexander Zverev.
Jannik Sinner moved one step closer to successfully defending his Australian Open title when he defeated American Ben Shelton 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-2 in a tense semi-final at Rod Laver Arena on the evening of January 24.
In a matchup between the two players with the strongest shots on the tour, Sinner showed better control, more precision and impressive resilience to win his 20th straight Grand Slam title on hard courts. He advanced to the third major final of his career.

The world number one saved two set points in the first set before winning in the tie-break. Sinner continued to counter the American's power in the second and third sets, defending well in the corners and pressuring the 22-year-old with his precision, winning in 2 hours and 35 minutes.
"It was a very difficult first set but very important. I felt like Shelton's serve wasn't at his best today. The percentages weren't what he wanted. I think we both returned better than we served. The first set is always very important. Winning gives you a lot of confidence and there was a lot of tension for both of us. I'm very happy with the way I handled the situation today," Sinner shared after the match.
Sinner, 23, became the youngest player to reach multiple Australian Open finals since Jim Courier in 1993. The top seed holds a 100% winning record in Grand Slam finals (Australian Open 2024, US Open 2024) and will hope to maintain that streak against Alexander Zverev, who reached the final after Novak Djokovic was forced to retire in the semi-finals due to injury.
"I was under a lot of stress today and had a few cramps. Shelton had a sore leg today, so I tried to keep him moving and keep him hungry, which worked well. These matches can last a long time. Three sets in 2 hours and 30 minutes is quite a long time, so I'm happy to finish the match in three sets. I'm happy to be back in the final and we'll see what happens on Sunday," said Sinner, who received medical treatment for cramps in the third set.
The men's singles final between Sinner and Zverev is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. on January 26.
