Spanish media reported that Rafael Nadal will participate in the ATP 250 Qatar Open in Doha from February 19-24 in Doha. The Spaniard will skip two clay tournaments, the Argentina Open and the Brazil Open in South America, even though these are his favorite surfaces.
Coach Carlos Moya said about his player's decision: "Continuously playing on different pitches is not easy.
Although clay suits Nadal, having to play on different surfaces all the time doesn't suit us.
That's why we chose the current schedule. Nadal's injury has also improved a lot, the injury itself is not too serious."
After finishing the Qatar Open, Nadal will likely attend Indian Wells and Miami Open in the US.
These are two ATP Masters 1,000 tournaments on hard courts, before the clay court season begins in March in Europe with the Monte Carlos Masters, Madrid Open and Rome Masters.
After nearly a year of absence, Nadal returned earlier this year, but he played three matches at the Brisbane Open before having to retire due to injury. The Spanish star will not participate in the 2024 Australian Open - the tournament he won in 2022.
