On the evening of October 13, at Binh Duong Convention and Exhibition Center, the Bong Sen Folk Music and Dance Theater brought to the 2024 National Professional Music and Dance Festival the musical and ballet Khat Vong Sen , a dance that expresses the feelings about folk dance art.
This is a program that the theater carries out under the direction of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City to participate in a national professional festival.
The Lotus Aspiration makes people wonder about the existence of folk dance art.
The struggle to preserve folk dance art
Instead of competing in the program as individual performances, the Bong Sen Folk Music and Dance Theater built its 70-minute performance into a complete musical and dance drama.
Sen's Desire (literary script: People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, People's Artist Cong Nhac, directors: People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, Nguyen Luong Tuan) is a story about a young actress named Sen, specializing in folk dance. She is talented and loves her job.
Viet is also a young man passionate about dancing, born and raised abroad. He met Sen and discovered the special relationship between his mother and Sen's father.
From there, the play opens up the past and links to the present. Therein lies the concern of those who passionately love the art of folk dance.
The predecessors were concerned about the survival of traditional dance in the face of the dominance of trendy forms of entertainment.

The sentiment of Lotus Desire is not only limited to folk dance art, but it also seems to be a common sentiment for traditional art forms today.
A big question that people today need to consider carefully to preserve national cultural identity.
50 artists express their aspirations
As a program with a consistent, complete story with a timely and meaningful message, about 50 artists, musicians and choreographers worked hard on the rehearsal floor for 2 months to create the work "Sen's Desire" .

Sen's Aspiration is a combination of traditional and modern dance, music, traditional musical instrument performance, and rap to best express the play's intentions.
In a situation where art forms are lacking young people, the play features quite a few young actors.
According to Ms. Thanh Thuy - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, this phenomenon is extremely valuable.
Young people need to be given more opportunities to practice their craft to have more motivation to continue traditional arts.
Ms. Thuy added that after attending the festival, the department and the theater will calculate to make the musical and ballet Khat Vong Sen more complete and aim for performances serving tourism.
