Along the beach area in Nha Trang from Tran Phu Street to the end of Pham Van Dong Street, there are dozens of businesses selling umbrellas and chairs on the beach.

According to records, each location has 20 - 30 reclining chairs. The rental price ranges from 50,000 - 100,000 VND/chair.

Posing as someone looking for a place on the beach to put down an umbrella and chairs, we approached a man at the beach area of ​​Pham Van Dong Street.

This person manages more than 10 beach chairs. Whenever tourists come, he offers them for 50,000 VND/person, unlimited time, and free towels.

When we asked about how to rent this beach, this person said he rented it from a 5-star hotel called MT.

"They rent the space to someone else first, then it's my turn. I'm the third or fourth person, not the hotel directly. I've been working for ten years and still haven't been able to rent a space," this person said.

This man also said that the rental price for a place on this beach is about 300 million VND/year.

"If they like it, they rent it out. If they don't like it, they'll rent it out to someone else next year," the man said with a sigh.

Continuing, we went to the beach area opposite Tran Phu street. After walking a few steps, a man named C. ran up and asked us if we needed to rent chairs.

The reporter said that if he wanted to rent a place on the beach to put umbrellas and chairs for business, Mr. C. said that now the rent has to be calculated annually, for a "good" beach it is 350 million VND/year, and for a "bad" beach it is about 300 million VND/year.

Mr. C. said that he rented this place on the beach from a 4-star hotel named R. for about 320 million VND/year.

"This hotel rents the beach. I rent it back and pay them. Then they take my money to pay the State. I don't charge hotel guests, but I do charge outside guests," said Mr. C.

Mr. C. advised that if serving the hotel, order 6 pairs of chairs, and arrange umbrellas to have enough of this number, then start picking up outside guests.

"If there is an inspection, put the chair in. If there is no inspection and there are many customers, take it out to find it" - Mr. C advised.

More than 300 million VND to rent a place on the beach in Nha Trang is not a small amount of money. We asked Mr. C. when he would break even with such an investment.

Mr. C. replied that he could recover his capital within 3 months of summer, because at this time there are many foreign visitors, not to mention selling other drinks.

According to the leader of the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board, the beach rental price is determined according to each road section and the beach rental price is based on the annual land price of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee.

Specifically, currently, the beach opposite Tran Phu street, divided into the section from Tran Phu - Phan Chu Trinh intersection to Tran Phu - Hoang Dieu intersection is 1,088,640 VND/m²/year; the section from Tran Phu - Hoang Dieu intersection to Tran Phu - To Hieu intersection is 450,000 VND/m²/year.

The beach opposite Pham Van Dong street, from the north of Tran Phu bridge to the intersection of Pham Van Dong - Mai Xuan Thuong is 450,000 VND/m²/year.

"From the beginning, there was a plan to divide each plot along the beach. Hotels that want to rent those plots must rent them according to the plan of how many square meters they have from the beginning, not whatever they want," affirmed the leader of the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board.

According to provincial regulations, MT Hotel (5 stars) currently rents a beach area of ​​212.75m² with a unit price of 1,088,640 VND/m²/year. R Hotel (4 stars) currently rents a beach area of ​​172.5m² with a unit price of 1,088,640 VND/m²/year.

Thus, according to the leader of the Nha Trang City Public Service Management Board, each year MT Hotel has to pay 254,768,976 VND, and R Hotel has to pay 206,596,440 VND each year.

Meanwhile, as mentioned above, the people we met on the beach in front of MT hotel said they rented the beach for 300 million VND/year, and in front of R hotel for 320 million VND/year.

At the press conference on the socio-economic situation in 2024 of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee held in January 2025, Mr. Luu Thanh Nhan - Vice Chairman of Nha Trang City People's Committee - said that the leaders of this city noticed a situation where some large coastal hotels were rented by the city on Nha Trang beach to place umbrellas and chairs for hotel guests, but then rented them to private individuals for profit.

About 15 minutes later, when the group of guests were about to leave, Phan Ngoc Hai (26 years old) came over, used Google Translate on his phone and asked the group of guests to pay 200,000 VND for the reclining chair rental service.

This group of guests did not agree and left. The police invited Hai to come in for questioning and learned that this beach area was run by Mr. Tran Thien Thao (49 years old, living in Nha Trang City) who runs a business renting buoys, umbrellas, and lounge chairs.

Hai was hired by Mr. Thao to take care of the rental. Mr. Thao said that he rented this beach area from Salling Club Nha Trang for business purposes.
