The Ministry of Education and Training signed a decision to recognize the operation of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) in Vietnam on January 8. This is a tourism and hospitality education center from Australia.
Accordingly, THE-ICE organization is allowed to carry out assessment and recognition activities according to the process and standards stated in the application documents for educational institutions with university-level training programs in tourism, hotel and restaurant groups according to the provisions of Vietnamese law.
Engineering and technology majors are subject to accreditation by ABET (USA)
On the same day, the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) from the US was also recognized to operate in Vietnam.
ACBSP is authorized to conduct assessment and accreditation activities according to the procedures and standards stated in the application documents for training programs at all levels of university education in the fields of social and behavioral sciences (economics group); business and management; tourism, hotels, sports and personal services (tourism group; hotels, restaurants).
Another famous organization, ABET (Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology Education) from the US, is also recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training to operate in Vietnam.
Accordingly, ABET is allowed to conduct assessment and accreditation activities according to the procedures and standards stated in the application documents for university education programs, including undergraduate training fields in computing and information technology, engineering technology; undergraduate and master's training fields in life sciences, natural sciences, mathematics and statistics, engineering, production and processing, architecture and construction, environment and environmental protection.
ACBSP and THE-ICE will accredit industries related to tourism, hotels, and restaurants.
On January 9, the Ministry of Education and Training also recognized the activities of ACQUIN (Germany's Accreditation, Certification and Quality Assurance Institute) in Vietnam. ACQUIN is allowed to conduct assessment and accreditation activities according to the procedures and standards stated in the application documents for university-level training programs as prescribed by Vietnamese law.
The period for which international educational accreditation organizations are recognized and operate in Vietnam is 5 years. All 4 organizations are responsible for maintaining and meeting the operating conditions according to Vietnamese law, and for providing transparent information about educational quality accreditation activities in Vietnam by sending external assessment reports to the Department of Quality Management, Ministry of Education and Training after each assessment is completed.
In addition, these educational accreditation organizations must annually report to the Ministry of Education and Training on the results of educational quality accreditation activities in Vietnam before December 31 and report on changes (if any) related to the legal status of the organization. At the same time, they must comply with regulations on supervision of educational quality accreditation organizations and other relevant legal regulations of Vietnam.
How many educational quality assurance organizations are operating in Vietnam?
Previously, there were 6 international education accreditation organizations operating in Vietnam, including: Hcéres, AUN-QA, QAA, FIBAA, AQAS and ASIIN.
Thus, Vietnam currently has 17 domestic and international education quality assessment organizations. There are 5 assessment centers in the country under state agencies, including: Center for Education Quality Assessment, Hanoi National University; Center for Education Quality Assessment, Ho Chi Minh City National University; Center for Education Quality Assessment, Da Nang University; Center for Education Quality Assessment, Vinh University; Center for Education Quality Assessment under the Association of Vietnamese Universities and Colleges.
Two private education accreditation centers include Saigon Education Quality Accreditation Center (Ho Chi Minh City Education Investment Joint Stock Company) and Thang Long Education Quality Accreditation Center (Hanoi Education Investment Joint Stock Company).
