Speaking with VietNamNet, Mr. Cao Van Cuong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa - said that after the press reported, the department coordinated with the People's Committee of Muong Lat district to organize a conference to find solutions and remove difficulties for cassava growers.

Currently, Muong Lat district has more than 3,000 hectares of cassava, mainly concentrated in the communes of Trung Ly, Muong Ly, Pu Nhi and Tam Chung.

Of which, Phuc Thinh Agricultural and Forestry Products Processing and Materials Joint Stock Company (Phuc Thinh Company) has jointly purchased about 1,500 hectares. The company has purchased all the products of this signed area; the people are currently finding their own outlets for the remaining cassava area. Therefore, when the price of cassava drops, traders do not purchase, so the output is blocked.

Regarding the solution, in the immediate future, the department will coordinate with the district People's Committee to organize a conference with businesses, especially Phuc Thinh Company and the cassava factory in Ba Thuoc district, to purchase cassava for people.

“In case of not being able to purchase in time, people can slice and dry it to make animal feed for livestock and poultry. In the long term, we still have to cooperate with processing factories.

However, the linkage contract must ensure that when the market price increases, the purchase price must also increase. Conversely, when the price decreases, it must ensure that the purchase price is still profitable to ensure the livelihood of the people," Mr. Cuong noted.

According to the leader of Muong Lat district, the locality has connected with Phuc Thinh Company to buy all remaining cassava output (about 8,400 tons) from the people, expected to be completed before March 30.

In addition, Muong Lat district also proactively worked with Phuc Thinh Company on a plan to purchase all cassava output from people in the 2025-2026 crop year.

Previously, VietNamNet newspaper reported that cassava prices had dropped by more than half compared to last year, hundreds of households in Muong Lat district (Thanh Hoa) did not want to pull out the tubers because they did not have enough labor. With no traders coming to buy, cassava had been piled up on the road for many days.
