On the afternoon of June 26, the Department of Irrigation (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development) and the Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper held a press conference on the contest "80 years of Vietnam's Irrigation Industry accompanying the country". The contest was launched to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of Vietnam's irrigation industry (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2025).
According to Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thach - Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper, the contest also affirms the outstanding achievements, the role, position, and special importance of the irrigation sector to agriculture, farmers, rural areas in particular and the socio-economic, national security and defense of the country in general. At the same time, it encourages and motivates the spirit of labor and creativity in the irrigation sector. And above all, the contest aims to show gratitude to those who have devoted their youth and lives to "dig mountains, block rivers" to help us have "full meals, warm clothes" and a beautiful life today!

The contest encourages, motivates and creates conditions for professional and non-professional authors nationwide to create works that honestly and vividly reflect the irrigation industry with its important role in human life, serving agricultural production.
The contest also aims to honor outstanding works and examples in the field of irrigation. Through the entries, stories in the management, protection and development of the irrigation sector will be known to many people in society.
This is also an opportunity for everyone working in irrigation to look back at the formation and development process of the industry to continue writing the glorious pages of history and strive to successfully complete the multi-purpose development mission of the industry.
Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Ngoc Thach also expressed his hope that through this contest, there will be new approaches to irrigation, water resources in terms of quantity, quality, and distribution and use when Vietnam is determined to no longer be a country with a surplus of water. This aims to consistently demonstrate the Central Government's viewpoint on ensuring water security and safety of dams and reservoirs until 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Answering a number of reporters' questions at the press conference, Mr. Nguyen Tung Phong, Director of the Department of Irrigation, said that due to its special nature, irrigation issues are always linked with disaster prevention work, interacting with each other.
"It can be said that irrigation will include stories about natural disaster prevention and control, including floods and droughts. Therefore, journalists and contest participants can fully exploit this content," the head of the Department of Irrigation added.
Meanwhile, from a journalism perspective, Mr. Dang Khac Loi, Deputy Director of the Press Department, said that there were 18,300 news articles about the irrigation sector in 2024, which proves that this field is of interest to the press.

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper Vu Minh Viet said that the works submitted for the contest must ensure that they have not been posted or published in the mass media. However, after the Organizing Committee has received the entries, the authors can post and publish this content.
In addition, the contest content will not be limited to the last 80 years of the irrigation industry but will also expand on the water management work of our ancestors throughout history.
The Organizing Committee will receive entries from the launch of the Contest until June 15, 2025 (based on the postmark). Entries must be in the following categories: Articles, speeches, videos - clips, photo reports, short stories, poems... and must comply with the regulations on form and content of the Contest rules.
The award structure of the Contest includes: 01 Special Prize, 03 A Prizes, 06 B Prizes; 09 C Prizes, 15 Encouragement Prizes and 03 Prizes for groups that organize the contest well, have a large number of products participating in the contest, and are of good quality.
Contest entries (including printed copies, soft copies, audio/image/clip files for speeches, videos - clips, photos) are sent to Vietnam Agriculture Newspaper. Address: No. 14 Ngo Quyen, Trang Tien, Hoan Kiem, Hanoi; the envelope containing the entries must clearly state: Entry for the contest "80 years of Vietnam's Irrigation Industry accompanying the country".
