Not only does it reduce environmental pollution, but the use of biological products to treat straw after harvest also helps Ha Tinh farmers reduce fertilizer costs and increase productivity.
Farmers often have the habit of burning straw and stubble after the harvest.
After each rice harvest, many fields in Ha Tinh are covered in smoke and dust from the burning of straw by farmers. Not only does it pollute the environment, but the organic substances in the straw during the burning process will turn into inorganic substances, causing the fields to dry out and become hard; causing an imbalance in the ecosystem...
In the summer-autumn crop of 2023, the Farmer Support Center (Provincial Farmers' Association) coordinated with the Plant Protection Center of Region IV and the Center for Organic Agriculture (Vietnam Academy of Agriculture) to build a model using Emuniv - treating straw and stubble directly in the field.
The product is a product of national research projects researched and transferred by the Center for Organic Agriculture. The model is deployed on a total area of 5 hectares in the communes: Hong Loc (Loc Ha), Viet Tien (Thach Ha), Ky Tien (Ky Anh district), Cam Quang, Cam Thach (Cam Xuyen) - each unit is 1 hectare.
Summer-autumn rice fields using stubble treatment products in Huong Giang village, Viet Tien commune, Thach Ha at the tillering stage, the rice grows well and is free of pests and diseases.
Mr. Nguyen Ba Dat - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Viet Tien Commune (Thach Ha) shared: “In the summer-autumn crop, the pressure of the season is intense, the fields do not have time for the stubble to decompose, making production more difficult. When learning about the model, many households boldly registered to participate. The commune selected and deployed the model in Huong Giang village with an area of 1.3 hectares (11 households). Using the product is quite easy, just mix the product with soil or fertilizer and spread it on the field. After about 10 days, the stubble has decomposed, creating organic fertilizer. Although in the first crop, people lacked experience and did not fully comply with the technical process, the model still showed clear effectiveness, people were very excited and wanted to continue using it in the following crops".
Soil after 15 days in the field without using the product (left) and soil after 15 days using Emuniv product (right).
Mr. Bien Van Quang - Head of Service - Farmer Support Department (Provincial Farmer Support Center) said: "After 15 days of treatment with the product, we checked the model field and found that the rice plants tillered early, had long roots, had fewer black roots, and tillered more concentratedly than the control field, and the stubble decomposed quickly; at the same time of inspection, the stubble in the control field had not yet decomposed completely, and the soil had a foul, sour smell. In addition, the product also overcame the situation of soil and water in the field being contaminated with acid sulfate; almost completely limited the phenomenon of physiological root suffocation, red eel tail, and significantly reduced diseases such as brown spots, black spots, and brown spots...".
From 35 days onwards, farmers will clearly see the difference from the product usage model. The rice has ginger green leaves, strong plants, and healthy plants; in the control plot, the rice has a dark green color, weaker plants, and many leaf rollers appear.

By the end of the season, monitoring showed that the number of flowers/area in the model field and the control field were basically equal. However, the rate of empty grains in the model field was 4.2% lower than in the control field, so the average yield in the model field reached 300 kg/sao, 40 kg/sao (>15%) higher than in the control field.
It is worth mentioning that in the model of using Emuniv, farmers reduce 30% of chemical fertilizers but plants still grow and develop healthily, with few pests and diseases.
Through some experimental models in Ha Tinh, it shows that using straw treatment products in the fields is one of the measures to increase economic efficiency, improve soil, limit pests and diseases, be environmentally friendly and bring many practical benefits to farmers.
In the coming years, especially in the summer-autumn crop, we will continue to direct the Farmer Support Center to focus on coordinating with all levels of the association to propagate and mobilize farmer members to apply measures to use straw treatment products on a large scale. At the same time, coordinate with specialized sectors to develop mechanisms and policies to encourage and support farmers to gradually create smokeless fields, restore organic resources, increase soil fertility, and minimize environmental pollution.
