During the last week of school before Tet holiday, Doan Thanh Nhan, a 10th grade IT student at the Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University) returned to his old school to give back his prize money for excellent students in the city to help poor but studious juniors.

* Why do you think of giving the prize money for the first prize of excellent students in the city to poor but studious students?
- This is the money I have earned from my own efforts in studying. My parents let me decide how to spend it, so I really want to do something useful. I thought about sending it back to the school to transfer to poor but studious students with the hope of encouraging students with less favorable conditions to have more opportunities to study.
This amount is not large, only 10 million VND, but I hope my small gift can encourage and motivate you more so that you feel shared and have more joy as Tet approaches.
* What did your teachers and school say about you bringing your good student bonus money home to give to poor students?
- At the end of December 2024, I received the city's excellent student award money. At that time, I had the above intention, but the school said that I was still in school, this was a reward, I should keep it to buy a meaningful gift to reward myself.
But I consider giving back my prize the most meaningful thing, so I asked my mother to contact the school to get their approval.
I will try to study hard to get more rewards and share more with you guys.

* It is known that in December 2024, you and the Hong Bang 1 team won 3rd place in the world STEM robotics competition. What led you to the creation of robots?
- When I was in primary school, I liked playing games, then I gradually liked computer science. At Hong Bang Secondary School (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City), the computer science teacher also introduced us to STEM robotics. Out of curiosity, I also learned about it and gradually fell in love with creating robots.
Currently, the Ministry of Education and Training has introduced STEM into schools. Now many students will be exposed to STEM robotics in school, so I think more and more students will like to study and work in the field of robotics.
* As a student on the team that won first prize in the STEM robotics Vietnam competition and also won third prize in the world competition in Türkiye, what factors do you think are needed to study robotics well?
- In my personal experience, the most important factor to learn robotics well is patience and perseverance. Because when learning and creating robots, learners have to deal with hardware, software and often have to fix errors in robots. If you study in this field without those qualities, you cannot pursue it for a long time, especially when there are many complex errors that sometimes learners have to redo the entire design for the robot to operate.
Cherish the hearts of students
Mr. Tran Van Luyen - Principal of Hong Bang Secondary School, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City - explained that at first he did not agree to accept Nhan's excellent student bonus into the scholarship fund because he wanted her to save it to buy something for herself.
But after talking more about your wishes, the school agreed and promised to put the gift to good use. The school really appreciates your kindness.
