To meet the current needs of educational development, the teaching staff of Quang Yen Town all try to keep their minds bright, their reputations good, their love for their jobs, their love for their students, and their noblest profession. One of them is Ms. Pham Thi Gam, an English teacher at Bach Dang High School (Quang Yen Town).
Born and raised in Uong Bi City, loving teaching at an early age, Ms. Gam studied at Quang Ninh Pedagogical College in the late 1980s. Those were the years of innovation, the country was still facing many difficulties; students often lacked everything. Many people still joked: "Only rats running in the same cage can enter pedagogy", so she had to love the profession very much to be determined to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. After graduating, Ms. Gam accepted a job and taught Literature at a school in the eastern district of the province. After 3 years of working, she applied for and passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Foreign Languages. Graduating in 1998, she has been attached to Bach Dang High School for more than 20 years.
Teacher Pham Thi Gam is a shining example of studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, overcoming difficulties to reach her dream. When meeting her, everyone can clearly feel her simplicity, modesty, closeness, and help for her students, always considering them as her own relatives. She cares for and tutors disadvantaged, shy, and unevenly performing students, especially in the subjects she is in charge of, with all her love.
Pham Cong Vinh (student of class 12A10, Bach Dang High School) shared: “Studying with teacher Gam is the happiest thing, not only for me but also for all my friends in the school. She does not create pressure, but on the contrary, she always gently guides students to grasp the lesson. She saw that I was shy and learned slowly, so she spent time tutoring me and some friends at home in her free time. She printed a lot of exercises and test questions, and helped us correct them without receiving any compensation from the students. She is like a real mother at home for me”. Many other students who have studied with teacher Gam share this sentiment.
Teacher Bui Duc Thanh, Vice Principal of the school, commented: "Ms. Gam is a dedicated teacher, an excellent teacher of the school, loved and respected by students, and a shining example of morality for students to follow."
She does not attach much importance to the title of competition, so she often focuses on teaching at school and helping students. Many colleagues share: A shining example of dedication to the profession, for the future of students like her, but has not been named in the competitions organized by the industry. For teacher Gam, the greatest reward is to be trusted by students, respected by colleagues; the greatest joy is to share her knowledge with the enthusiasm and responsibility of a mother.
Besides imparting knowledge to students, she always cares about the feelings and personalities of teenagers; always close to them, asking and solving their concerns and difficulties like a friend or older sister. Therefore, students feel confident, open, dare to express their feelings and listen to her teachings. Many students have achieved high results in their studies, passed the university entrance exam, and succeeded in life.
The first time I met and talked to her for a short time, my impression was of a simple, kind-hearted woman with a warm, friendly and approachable smile. She said: “I love my job and my students as much as I love my own children. When I see them learning slowly and not having a solid grasp of knowledge, I often encourage them to come to my house to tutor them without receiving any payment. Seeing them progress makes me happy.”
Besides teaching, she spends the most time as a homeroom teacher. Students in all classes she is in charge of love her. Many students return to visit her regularly after graduating. The example of learning and following Uncle Ho of teacher Pham Thi Gam is one of the examples that teachers of Bach Dang High School always give to generations of students: Loving students wholeheartedly, devoting themselves to work without regard for fame or profit.
