Vem Miller, the suspect in the third assassination attempt on Donald Trump, asserted that he had no intention of assassinating him and only carried a gun for self-defense, raising security concerns.
On October 14, US media reported the arrest of Vem Miller, who was accused of bringing weapons to former President Donald Trump’s campaign event in California. However, in a phone interview, Miller denied all allegations of plotting to assassinate Mr. Trump and asserted that carrying two guns was only for self-defense.

"I always keep a gun in the back of my car when I'm on the road," Miller explained, adding that he bought the gun because he had received death threats. "But I've never fired a gun in my life, I don't know anything about guns."
Miller said he had received threats related to his work at the America Happens Network and brought a weapon to the event for personal safety. He is now out on $5,000 bail. He has also hired a lawyer to sue Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco for what Miller said were false statements at a press conference over the weekend. During the press conference, Bianco said his deputies
“could have prevented another assassination attempt” on Trump.

However, authorities have not found evidence that Miller intended to assassinate the former president. Public records show that Miller, a Republican and a Trump supporter, expressed surprise and anger at his arrest and the serious charges. The Trump campaign has not called the incident an assassination attempt. Several sources close to the case said they had no clear evidence to confirm that Miller posed a direct threat to Trump's safety. Miller's arrest comes amid growing concerns about political violence in the United States. Notably, former President Trump has been attacked at least twice this year. On July 3, while campaigning in Butler, suspect Thomas Matthew Crook shot Trump, injuring the former president in the ear. Although Crook was later shot by a US Secret Service sniper, the incident raised questions about the level of security for the presidential candidate. Another similar incident occurred on September 15, when Mr. Trump was again the target of an attack plot while playing golf in West Palm Beach, Florida. This time, fortunately, the US Secret Service detected and stopped the attacker early.

In the face of escalating political violence, Mr. Trump requested protection by helicopters and military vehicles at upcoming campaign events over the weekend, reflecting growing concerns about the former President’s safety in the final stages of the race for the White House.
