World steel and iron ore prices increase slightly

Domestic steel prices remained stable at around VND13,400 – 13,850/kg. Meanwhile, world steel and iron ore prices increased slightly due to positive sentiment from the Nippon Steel – US Steel deal.

In the global market, the April rebar futures price on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) rose slightly by 0.42%, equivalent to 13 yuan, to 3,145 yuan/ton. At the same time, the May iron ore price on the Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) also recorded an increase of 1.3%, reaching 771 yuan/ton.

In the Singapore market, iron ore prices increased more strongly with an increase of 2.4%, equivalent to 2.36 USD, to 101.18 USD/ton. This increase reflects the optimistic sentiment of investors, especially when the market appeared positive information from the deal related to Nippon Steel.

One of the highlights of the day was a speech by Nippon Steel President Tadashi Imai on progress in the acquisition of US Steel. According to him, Japan and the US government are moving closer to understanding the investment plan, saying the deal will strengthen the US steel industry.

Although Nippon Steel declined to provide further details, the statement is seen as a positive signal, as the $14.9 billion deal is still under negotiation.

US President Donald Trump has previously expressed no objection to Nippon Steel taking a minority stake in US Steel, rather than buying it outright. The latest filings show that the US government is considering extending the deadline to complete negotiations, suggesting that the deal could go ahead in some form.

In the short term, domestic steel prices are forecast to remain stable, thanks to the lack of significant changes in construction demand and stable supply from domestic factories. In the world market, factors such as public investment policies in the US and Asia, along with fluctuations in the Chinese real estate market, will continue to be the main factors affecting steel and iron ore prices.

On the morning of March 26, domestic steel prices remained stable. Construction steel prices of CB240 and D10 CB300 types of major brands continued to fluctuate from VND13,400/kg to VND13,850/kg, depending on the region and manufacturer.
