After the success of the Provincial Hotel Reception Competition held from November 9-10, organized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh in coordination with the Provincial Tourism Association, the Ha Tinh delegation sent 8 candidates to participate in the Reception Competition in inter-provincial tourist accommodation establishments Thanh Hoa - Nghe An - Ha Tinh in 2023. As a result, Ha Tinh won 6 prizes, including 1 first prize, 1 second prize, 1 third prize and 3 consolation prizes.

The two competitions created a professional playground with an exciting atmosphere of competition and exchange among those working as receptionists at accommodation establishments in particular and those working in Ha Tinh tourism in general.

Ms. Tran Thi Tham (receptionist at Eagle Hotel, Ha Tinh City) said: "I graduated from the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, Hue University of Foreign Languages ​​and have been working as a hotel receptionist for nearly 5 years. When participating in the contest, observing the performance of other contestants, I realized that I still have many shortcomings and need to learn and practice more. In particular, the contest helped me expand my knowledge and ways to effectively introduce tourism products of accommodation facilities and localities in the province."

It is known that, participating in the recent receptionist competition, Ms. Tham won third prize at the provincial level and an encouragement prize at the inter-provincial level.

Ms. Than Thi Nghi - Director of Thien Y Hotel (Thien Cam Tourist Area, Cam Xuyen) expressed: "The contest is a very meaningful professional activity. For a long time, receptionists have been considered the face of the hotel, but few people know their role and position. The contest is an opportunity to honor and encourage the team of receptionists, contestants learn experience and managers like us have the opportunity to recognize and evaluate the capacity of our staff. Through that, we will have a plan to recruit and train increasingly high-quality human resources, in order to serve tourists in the best way".

Lecturer Nguyen Duy Minh - Head of Information Technology and Communications Department (Tourism Information Center - Vietnam National Administration of Tourism) introduced digital transformation applications in the tourism industry at the training course "Digital transformation in tourism activities in Ha Tinh province" (October 2023).

It is known that, to overcome the shortage of skilled and trained tourism human resources, the Provincial People's Committee recently issued Decision No. 767/QD-UBND, dated April 5, 2023, approving the list of tasks to implement policies to support tourism development in Ha Tinh in 2023. Including a policy to support training and fostering tourism human resources.

According to the decision, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinated with Ha Tinh University, Nguyen Du College, the provincial Tourism Association and localities to organize 8 training courses to improve knowledge and professional skills for managers and service staff working at tourist establishments, scenic spots, etc.; 6 professional courses on food processing techniques, reception, room service, and bartending for staff at tourist service establishments and 6 training courses on knowledge about community tourism development, tour guides, business administration, and digital media applications for tourism development, etc.

Up to this point, many units assigned to train and develop tourism human resources have implemented their tasks and achieved many results.

Ms. Dang Thi Thuy Hang - Principal of Nguyen Du College said: "Implementing Decision No. 767 of the Provincial People's Committee, up to now, we have organized 11/15 training courses to improve professional skills for managers and employees working at tourism businesses, hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas in the province with over 300 students participating. The training courses include: Food preparation techniques, beverage preparation, restaurant services, housekeeping services, and communication in tourism business".

Along with Nguyen Du College, recently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has also organized training courses for managers and staff in localities such as: training on digital marketing in tourism, training on tourism development knowledge for communities at rural tourist destinations...

Mr. Le Tran Sang - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh said: "In the context of the post-COVID-19 pandemic, the skilled tourism human resources at tourism businesses have decreased. Strengthening coordination in organizing training courses to improve skills for workers directly serving in the tourism industry is very urgent. The Ha Tinh tourism industry is making efforts to gradually overcome long-standing limitations, making tourism develop into a key economic sector in the coming time".

Ha Tinh currently has 294 hotels and motels with more than 7,000 rooms, including 2 5-star establishments, 3 4-star establishments, and 8 3-star establishments. There are 1,553 restaurants and 40 tourist areas and spots (including 15 recognized tourist areas).

The direct labor force in the tourism industry is about 3,000 people, and the indirect labor force is about 7,000 - 8,000 people.
