80 years of accompanying the country and the development of the homeland is a journey of continuous efforts of generations of doctors in the Thanh Hoa medical sector. In any circumstance, the medical sector always fulfills its noble mission of caring for, protecting and improving the health of the people.
Initially, from just one hospital with a few dozen people, evacuated everywhere, up to now, the health system from the province to the grassroots has developed synchronously, comprehensively, inclusively, and in-depth. The highlight is that from the period 2005-2018, Thanh Hoa's health sector has made its mark with remarkable developments in all aspects. Many advanced techniques have been effectively applied in medical examination and treatment and have made breakthrough developments; many new and complex techniques have been deployed for the first time at provincial and district hospitals. Notably, the successful implementation of kidney transplantation techniques. Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital is the second provincial hospital in the country to be named on the Vietnamese organ transplant map.
During this period, the socialization of health care activities was also given attention, creating favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms and incentives to attract investment projects for health care both within and outside the public sector. Satellite hospital projects, technology transfer, rotation of staff from upper to lower levels to improve quality and qualifications; Autonomy projects at public hospitals were implemented and brought many positive results. The innovation of service style and attitude, taking patients as the center towards patient satisfaction, implemented by the whole sector, had good results; State management of health care was strengthened; the proportion of the population participating in health insurance increased sharply, exceeding the planned target.
From 2019 to present, the health sector of Thanh Hoa province continues to make its mark in many fields. In 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic became a disaster for many countries and territories, but with the participation of the entire political system, the health sector played a core role in advising, organizing and implementing timely, creative and effective measures, making Thanh Hoa one of the "bright spots" of the country in preventing and fighting the COVID-19 epidemic; one of the provinces with the lowest rate of COVID-19 infection and death in the country (0.037% while the whole country is 0.4%). In the period of 2021-2022, Thanh Hoa is also among the few localities that promptly and effectively implemented the "dual goal" of both preventing the epidemic and recovering and developing the socio-economy, being the earliest province to return all socio-economic activities to normal.
The Resolution of the 19th Thanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress, term 2020-2025, identified healthcare as one of the pillars of growth, with the goal of building a healthcare service system to best serve people in the province and neighboring areas on the basis of promoting socialization, strengthening facilities and equipment; applying advanced and modern technology; training high-quality human resources; attracting the construction of a number of high-quality, reasonably priced medical examination, treatment and healthcare facilities.
To achieve this goal, the entire health sector from the province to communes, wards and towns has strived and basically completed all assigned goals and tasks, with outstanding results. The innovation, organization arrangement, streamlining of focal points and staffing have been effectively implemented. The whole province has 38 public hospitals, 4 provincial health centers, 26 district health centers, 556 commune, ward and town health stations, 20 private hospitals; 100% of villages, hamlets and residential groups have population collaborators; medical staff and midwives in villages and hamlets to carry out the tasks of taking care of people's health. The whole province has achieved 44 hospital beds/10,000 people, among the highest in the country and exceeding the set target.
During this period, Thanh Hoa's health sector invested in building new and purchasing equipment for 70 medical stations; renovated, repaired, upgraded and modernized the Provincial General Hospital to become a specialized medical examination and treatment facility, moving towards becoming a hospital with regional functions; invested in upgrading 4 provincial hospitals to grade I hospitals, newly built the Provincial Center for Disease Control, 4 hospitals and 5 district-level medical centers were upgraded and newly built. The Satellite Hospital Project continued to be maintained and developed. Up to now, Thanh Hoa has 7 satellite hospitals transferred over 20 high-tech specialties from central hospitals. Thanh Hoa's health sector continues to make its mark in developing high-tech, specialized services; many techniques that were previously only performed at the central level, have now become routine techniques in Thanh Hoa's health sector, helping to improve the quality of treatment and bring confidence to the people.
With these achievements, Thanh Hoa health sector has been honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and State: The title of Heroic Unit of the People's Armed Forces (2000); Third-class Independence Medal (2001); Second-class Independence Medal (2018), First-class Independence Medal (2015); Thanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital was awarded the title of Heroic Unit of Labor in the period of renovation. From 1986 to present, 171 doctors in Thanh Hoa health sector have been awarded the title of People's Physician, Meritorious Physician; many collectives and individuals have been awarded noble awards from the Party and State.

The Thanh Hoa health sector has been affirming its important role in the cause of taking care of people's health. With a solid foundation, the Thanh Hoa health sector continues to develop, making Thanh Hoa a high-tech medical center in the region. To do that, the sector continues to promote digital transformation towards smart health; focus on investing in modern medical equipment; streamline the apparatus, train high-quality human resources..., aiming at the goal of modern development, integrating with advanced health, better serving the health care needs of the people. Along with that, the whole sector is imbued with Uncle Ho's teachings: "...First of all, we must be honest and united. Unity is our strength. Unity can overcome all difficulties and achieve many achievements", "...must love and care for the sick like our own brothers and sisters, consider their pain as our own pain. A good doctor must be like a mother", to continue to strive, confidently enter the new era, rise up with the health sector of the whole country, worthy of the trust of the Party and the People.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27, 1955 - February 27, 2025), we would like to express our deep gratitude to all the doctors - the white-coated soldiers who have devoted their whole heart and dedication to the cause of protecting, caring for and improving the health of the people.
