On August 26, tens of thousands of 6th and 10th graders in public schools in Ho Chi Minh City went to school on the first day of the 2024-2025 school year with lessons on the new level of education and the 2018 General Education Program.

Each school in Ho Chi Minh City has a different way of helping students get used to the routine, especially the way of learning at a new level. Some schools in Ho Chi Minh City call the week of returning to school for 6th graders "civic education" week.

Accordingly, the students get to know the school, teachers, school routines, school areas, and functional rooms. And most of all, they get to enter a new and different school environment, which is middle school.

At Nguyen Van To Secondary School (District 10, Ho Chi Minh City), the week before 6th grade students went to school, the school held a meeting with parents to create the best mindset for children to enter their first level of education.

"In the talk with parents, we want parents to understand the new level of education. Don't ask about your child's grades and don't force them to get 9s or 10s like in primary school. Children need to be encouraged and motivated to have a good mindset to enter the new level of education most effectively and happily," said Mr. Nguyen Vi Tuong Thuy, principal of Nguyen Van To Secondary School.

At this school, in the first week, students only come to school one session, leave at noon and there are no teaching activities. They mainly focus on collective activities and in-depth familiarization in class and instructions on how to study the 2018 General Education Program.

Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) also started to introduce 6th grade students to the school from August 28 and also thoroughly introduced the functional rooms and areas in the school.

"Because the school is under renovation, we were not able to gather 6th grade students on August 26. The transition from 5th grade to 6th grade is an important moment in the psychology of this age group. The school will set aside a day for 6th grade students to get to know each other, then they will be exposed to other grades, ensuring that after a week they will have the confidence to start the new school year," said Ms. Hua Thi Diem Tram, the school's principal.

Prepare well for the new school year

According to Ms. Hua Thi Diem Tram, in the first week, Ha Huy Tap Secondary School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) focused on instructing students on the most essential things for secondary school students in the 2018 General Education Program. The new level of education, the new 2018 General Education Program, must prepare the best mentality for students.
