Only about 1 month left until Tet Lunar New Year , the atmosphere of buying and selling goods serving Tet was bustling and busy. Along with the traditional way of shopping at markets, stores, and supermarkets, the trend of online shopping is on the rise. has been helping customers shop more easily, conveniently and quickly. However, many people are also taking advantage of this time to scam and appropriate property, so people need to be extremely vigilant.
Economical and practical shopping
Taking advantage of her lunch break at work, Ms. Ho Thi Thu Hang, a bank employee in Ha Long City, "surfs" e-commerce sites to order Tet items online instead of going directly to the store to save time and get a good price. Ms. Hang shared: As an auditor of a business, the year-end work is so busy, I have to work overtime, clean the house, shop for my family, take care of internal and external affairs during Tet... Therefore, my time is very limited. Since I learned how to shop online, I have chosen to buy on e-commerce platforms instead of going directly to buy.
According to Ms. Hang, the advantage of online shopping is that you can access a variety of products in a short time, compare prices immediately and often take advantage of many promotional vouchers and discounts. Buyers also do not have to queue to pay directly but use online payment without using cash, so it saves time.
In addition, many customers also choose to follow livestreams on social networks and e-commerce platforms to get advice or get deep discounts. According to Mr. Tran Anh Khoa (Hong Hai Ward, Ha Long City), most of the goods prepared for Tet this year were purchased by him from livestreams and online discounts. Buying livestreams helps him interact with sellers, ask carefully about materials and items, especially at very deep discounts.
Like Ms. Hang and Mr. Khoa, at the end of the year, most young people and office workers choose to shop online on e-commerce platforms. The shopping trend during Tet mainly focuses on beauty, fashion, electronics, home furnishings, and food products. As young people are quite proficient in technology and online shopping, most of these customers are quite careful in their choices, only buying items that are really necessary, focusing on product quality instead of just paying attention to price.
Currently, the trend of online sales has been actively updated and widely used by businesses. To attract consumers during Tet, online sellers are advised to increase their advertising budget by 10-30% higher than usual. The most ideal time to run ads is 3-6 weeks before Tet with both on-platform (search advertising) and off-platform (social media advertising).
In addition to selling on e-commerce platforms, businesses also proactively open chat groups on Zalo to sell products and interact with customers. Ms. Nguyen Thuy Ha, Director of Viet Hung Agriculture - Forestry - Fishery Cooperative (Ha Long City), shared: In addition to preparing goods for direct sale at the store, I constantly update Tet items in the Zalo group. These are all loyal customers who have purchased many times, are assured of the origin and quality, so whatever the goods are, the customers will text and the store will deliver them immediately. Delivery time is within the day, sometimes only 1-2 hours, customers can receive them at any time.
According to Ms. Ha, during Tet, customers prioritize choosing essential goods and local agricultural products. Therefore, she focuses on importing agricultural products from the communes of Bang Ca, Dan Chu, Dong Lam, Dong Son, Ky Thuong (Ha Long) such as: chicken, sticky rice, braised pork, taro, vegetables... In addition, she also imports many types of goods to serve the needs of customers during Tet such as: bamboo shoots, Binh Lieu vermicelli, Van Don fish sauce, Quy Hoa Hai Ha golden flower tea... The amount of goods consumed during this time increases 5 times compared to normal days.
Online shopping scam warning
Although online shopping has many conveniences, many times customers feel disappointed when receiving online purchases because the seller delivers the wrong color, style, etc. size, Even if the item is wrong, when contacting the shop, there is no response or the contact is blocked immediately. Or if the return is possible, the refund is quite time-consuming. In addition, when buying online, customers are also easily taken advantage of by subjects, mixing in poor quality goods to make a profit.
In particular, taking advantage of the peak shopping season at the end of the year, scammers impersonate delivery staff (shippers) to trick customers into transferring money to appropriate property. According to information from the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Provincial Police), once they have the information, scammers will impersonate shippers to call to deliver goods during business hours or when the customer is not at home. If the listener says they cannot receive the goods, the scammers will urge the victim to receive the goods through acquaintances or neighbors to ensure sales and request money transfer to pay for the order.
After receiving the money, the scammers may continue to use many reasons such as: Texting the wrong member payment account to threaten to deduct money, asking the victim to click on the link they provide to declare the cancellation of membership; reporting the wrong order and then tricking the victim into clicking on the link to declare customer information to get a refund... The subject uses the information that the victim declares to attack, take control of the device and seize the bank account, seize the victim's money and then cut off communication.
To proactively prevent the above scams, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Quang Ninh Provincial Police recommends that people raise their vigilance, do not accept any orders that they have not ordered, do not transfer money or pay for orders that do not have a clear photo of the shipping code, recipient information and absolutely do not click on any links sent by strangers to avoid being "trapped" by scams. In addition, when detecting unusual signs, you must immediately stop the transaction and report the incident to the nearest police agency for timely handling.
Recently, the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) also issued a warning about online shopping scams at the end of the year. Accordingly, taking advantage of the end of the year with many holidays such as Christmas, New Year along with a series of big year-end sales events, scammers have launched tricks that have caused many people to fall into traps. Specifically, taking advantage of the "sale hunting" mentality (hunting for discount codes and promotions), bad guys will proactively approach victims through fake promotional emails and messages from familiar e-commerce platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Tiki.
In addition, taking advantage of the user habit analysis feature of social networking platforms, the subject creates fake fanpages or fake websites that are identical to the official pages of major brands to approach victims through advertisements about products that the victims are interested in, thereby enticing the victims to place orders at high discounts in order to appropriate the victims' assets.
Faced with the increasing trend of cyber fraud at the end of the year, the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) recommends that people should be cautious when making transactions on social networks or online. In addition, people need to verify the identity of the subject, find out the reputation of the seller and the quality of the product before buying, and do not transfer deposits in advance to avoid having their property appropriated. Raise the spirit of vigilance, proactively protect personal information, especially important information such as CCCD cards, bank account information; do not be greedy for assets, gifts of unknown origin that can be received easily, profits received without labor.
In particular, people should not transfer money or provide OTP codes to unknown individuals; be careful and carefully verify information received from social networks and unknown calls; and should not access any links or attachments received from unknown sources.
Regardless of the form of shopping, each person always needs to be proactive, alert, and choose goods from reputable, quality addresses to ensure good service for the needs of individuals and families.
