The blood-red beach scene on Hormuz Island, Iran, has recently caused a stir around the world. Images and videos circulating on social media show the sand, rocks, and even the sea water along the shore all tinged with a strange crimson color, leaving many people surprised and amazed. However, behind the somewhat "creepy" appearance is a unique natural phenomenon, revealing interesting geological secrets of this island, dubbed the Rainbow Bridge.

According to reports from CNN, Daily Mail and local sources, the unusual red beach phenomenon was caused by recent heavy rains on the island of Hormuz. The rain washed away a special layer of soil called “Gelack” from the hillsides and cliffs, creating red waterfalls that cascaded down onto the beach. The magical moment was captured in a video shared by a local tour guide on Instagram, quickly attracting nearly a million likes and thousands of comments from around the world.

In the video, viewers can clearly see the blood-red water flowing strongly over the rocks, forming unique red waterfalls, before merging into the clear blue sea, dyeing a large area of the coastline red. The contrast between the bright red of the land and the blue of the sea creates a strange yet magnificent scene, leaving anyone who witnesses it in awe.

To decode this fascinating phenomenon, scientists have pointed out the important role of the special Gelack soil on Hormuz Island. This island is also known as Rainbow Island because of its rare mineral diversity, with more than 70 different types of minerals found. In particular, Gelack soil stands out with its extremely high iron oxide content, which is the component that creates the characteristic red color of this type of soil.

When rainwater comes into contact with Gelack soil, minerals, especially iron oxides, dissolve and mix with the mud, forming a dark red mixture. This mixed flow then follows the rainwater down to the beach, staining the sand, rocks and coastal seawater red, creating the unique sight of blood rain or blood beach. Interestingly, this phenomenon is not uncommon on Hormuz Island, but can occur year-round, whenever there is heavy rain.

Gelack soil is not only the element that creates the strange red beach, but also a valuable resource of various kinds. Thanks to the natural red pigment from iron oxide, Gelack soil is widely used in many different fields. In industry, it is used as a colorant for dyeing fabrics, cosmetics, glass and ceramics.

In particular, Gelack soil also has a unique application in local cuisine. Hormuz islanders use this soil as a special spice, adding it to dishes, sauces or jams to create a distinctive flavor and attractive color. This shows the close connection between nature and the unique culinary culture of this land.
