Heavy rain in Phu Quoc, water flooded into people's houses at midnight

On the morning of September 18, the Hydrometeorological Station of Kien Giang province issued a warning of thunderstorms, lightning and localized heavy rain in the province.

Specifically, satellite images and weather radar images recorded a convective cloud area developing and causing thunderstorms in some areas such as: Phu Quoc - Nam Du - An Minh sea area; coastal areas from Ha Tien - Hon Dat, Chau Thanh, An Bien, An Minh.

The Hydrometeorological Station of Kien Giang province warned that these convective clouds will continue to develop, especially causing heavy rain in Phu Quoc city.

On the same morning, many places in Phu Quoc City experienced localized flooding. The deepest level of flooding was up to 70cm. Rainfall was generally 20-40mm/h, with some places over 60mm/h. The forecasted disaster risk level is level 1.

People in deeply flooded areas in Phu Quoc City in Cay Thong Trong, Cay Thong Ngoai, Ben Tram hamlets, etc. are urgently evacuating their belongings. Some of their belongings such as motorbikes, mattresses, etc. were not evacuated in time, causing serious damage.

"It rained from last night until this morning. My family was sleeping when the water flooded and we had to wake up to move our belongings," said Mr. Tran Tien (Cay Thong Trong Hamlet, Cua Duong Commune).

According to Mr. Tien, many hamlets in Cua Duong commune have recorded water levels above people's knees.

In mid-July, Phu Quoc also experienced heavy rain due to the influence of a tropical depression, forcing the city government to evacuate and rescue dozens of households from deeply flooded areas.

According to the latest update from Dan Tri reporter, due to bad weather, boats to Phu Quoc and other islands in Kien Giang province continue to be temporarily suspended. In many groups in Phu Quoc city, tourists have started looking for places to stay because they are stuck.
