A daughter getting married is like spilled water. This is a bitter saying about the fate of women growing up in families that still follow many old concepts.
This is even more bitter in the story of a woman in Henan (China) below. Taking her child back to her mother's house, what made her hurt was being kicked out of the house by her mother.
The woman, holding her child in one arm and dragging her suitcase in the other, traveled a long way to her house. This was where she grew up, where her parents and younger brother lived. But just a few minutes later, the child burst into tears, and she herself cried bitterly.
When the mother saw her daughter return, she was not happy but instead angry. She blocked her daughter right outside the door, not letting her enter, and even threw the suitcase far away.
“I told you not to get a divorce, but you still did it. Now you have to suffer for what you did,” the mother said.
It turned out that the woman had divorced despite her family's advice, now with nowhere to go, she could only return to the place where she grew up.
The mother did not allow her daughter to enter the house because she was afraid that the neighbors would gossip and disgrace the family. A more important reason was that “divorced women bring bad luck into the house and affect the younger brother’s ability to get married.”
The words were also clear, mother told her to go wherever she wanted, as long as she didn't come home, as for whether or not she would see him again, she would think about it later.
Suddenly being scolded loudly, the son was scared to tears. He knew his grandmother, but he never thought she would be so fierce, so he was scared and cried.
Being chased out of the house by her mother with nowhere to go, the woman could not hold back her tears. But she did not dare to protest, because the mother and daughter were at a dead end, arguing with her mother was meaningless, she could only persistently beg, hoping that she would let her stay for a few days to figure out what to do next.
According to the woman, her divorce was only a matter of time, because her husband had incurred a lot of debt due to his gambling addiction. He had sold all their assets, and the debt was piling up. The family was now so poor that they could barely eat.
Having married such a man, she now has no hope left. She wants to return to her parents' house, let her grandparents take care of her grandchild, and go to the city to earn money to send back to raise her child. So she firmly decided to divorce her husband, cut off all ties, so that her child can grow up healthy, without being influenced by her parents.
What she didn't expect was that when she returned home, her parents refused her so much, not even allowing her to come in to rest, or at least give her grandchild a meal.
