At 9am this morning (June 7), new candidates had to be present to complete the exam procedures and listen to the exam regulations. However, worried about traffic jams, Ms. Nguyen Tuyet Mai (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) and her child arrived at the exam site at Dong Da Secondary School (Dong Da District, Hanoi) 2 hours early.
This is the first time that her child has to take the notoriously "fierce" 10th grade entrance exam, so Ms. Mai is very stressed and worried.
"Accompanying my child for 9 years, especially this final year, I spend almost all my time taking him to and from school, taking care of his meals, and studying with him at night. Literature is a subject my son is not confident in, so in recent weeks, I have studied with him every day and checked his homework. Even this morning, while eating breakfast and sitting at the coffee shop waiting for him to complete the exam procedures, my child and I still had to open our books to review our lessons. His first choice is Le Quy Dong High School (Dong Da District), competing with many good students, so he is quite stressed," Ms. Tuyet Mai shared.
Children study for exams, many mothers also have to sit and study with their children.
Ms. Mai said that in recent weeks, her child has had to study 4 shifts every day. However, compared to some other children, that is not a "record" number. "My child's friend studies 4 shifts like me. But at 8pm, her mother came to pick her up after the 4th shift and rushed her to study the 5th shift from 8pm to 10pm. I can't imagine how tiring it is for children to be busy with such shifts all day. I really feel so miserable and sorry for the children who have to go through such a difficult school year!", Ms. Mai confided.
Standing right next to Ms. Mai, Ms. Phan Thuy Linh (Giang Vo Street, Hanoi) was also very worried because her child's English was not good. "I was worried about my child's English. Every time I took the test, my child only got 7-8 points. I was just worried that when taking the test, if she lost her composure and made small mistakes, she would not pass her favorite first choice. It was a hardship for her whole year of studying hard, studying day and night," Ms. Linh shared.
Outside the exam gate, there are always worried eyes watching from parents.
Ms. Mai and Ms. Linh said that in order not to affect the candidates' spirit in "the most difficult exam today", for the past month, their families have been "thoroughly aware": Must be gentle with their children, meet their requests and wishes. All for the purpose: Not affecting their children's psychology so that they can focus on the entrance exam to grade 10 of public high schools.
Tomorrow morning (June 8), candidates will take the first exam - Literature - for 120 minutes, starting at 8:00 a.m. In the afternoon of the same day, candidates will take the Foreign Language exam for 60 minutes, starting at 2:00 p.m. On the morning of June 9, candidates will take the Math exam for 120 minutes, starting at 8:00 a.m. June 10 is for candidates taking specialized subjects.
