Passion for "giant cats" from a photo
The personal page of Ha Thi Mong Trinh (born in 1995, from Binh Duong) is filled with pictures of cute kittens. There are tiny, cute kittens but there are also “giant” ones that weigh more than 10kg.
Originating from her love for cats, over the past 7 years, raising and taking care of cats has become Mong Trinh's main job, bringing her an impressive income.
Taking care of cats has become Trinh's daily routine.
Trinh graduated from the Faculty of Education and worked as a kindergarten teacher in Ho Chi Minh City for 3 years. Even though she did not have much money, she was willing to spend 10 million VND to buy 2 British cats to raise.
While surfing Facebook, Trinh accidentally saw a picture of a “giant” cat with strange fur color and a very cool face. She researched and found out that it was a Maine Coon (giant house cat), not yet popular in Vietnam.
“I searched for a long time before finding someone selling this breed of cat in Vietnam. I bought a female cat for 16 million VND (no papers - PV). After raising her for a while, I liked her so much that I bought another male cat for 15 million VND,” Trinh said.
She did not expect that the capital of 31 million VND and that pair of strange cats would change her life and career.

The “giant” cat couple gave birth to their first litter of 9 kittens. Trinh cherished and cared for them meticulously, occasionally taking pictures and sharing their cute moments on social media. After a while, many young people came to buy Trinh’s kittens for 17-20 million VND/cat.
Trinh learned more about the Maine Coon cat breed and saw great potential, as not many people in Vietnam were raising and selling this breed. When she had successfully sold two litters of cats, she decided to quit her job in Ho Chi Minh City and return to her hometown in Binh Duong to open a cat farm.

For many years, raising and trading “giant” cats has brought Trinh an impressive income. Each kitten with normal color, she sells for 55-85 million VND (purebred, full papers).

With rare colored kittens, she can sell for 200 million VND/cat. This job brings Trinh billions in revenue.
“The cost of raising the ‘little ones’ is quite a bit, around 200-350 million VND per year. The cost of regular checkups for them alone is around 20-25 million VND per month,” Trinh said.
Currently, Trinh raises about 70 cats, big and small. The cats breed twice a year, while the “giant” cats breed from 7 to 10 kittens per litter.
Trinh's house has 4 bedrooms, all of which are beautifully designed and convenient for cats to live in. Trinh jokingly said: "Even my husband and I's bedroom is invaded by cats."

In the early stages of starting her business, Trinh encountered many difficulties. At that time, she lacked experience in taking care of cats, and sometimes could not handle new diseases in cats, leading to bad consequences.
Every time she sees a cat off, Trinh feels sad and depressed and it takes a long time to recover.
“It’s not just a matter of profit or loss, it’s also a matter of sadness. I have cherished and cared for each kitten since birth, and if one of them dies, I’m very sad.
Once, I lost a litter of kittens. The mother cat got sick, which affected the kittens. For several days, I helplessly watched all 11 kittens die. After that, I took the mother cat to many places for treatment, and finally found the cause and cured her,” Trinh said.
Gaining experience day by day, month by month, consulting and learning from documents and large cat farms abroad, Trinh gradually became more confident. She took good care of the cats, minimizing risks.

The “giant” cat breed always leaves Trinh with an impressive look. They are both beautiful and cool, with a cheerful and active personality. Over the past 7 years, raising and caring for cats has brought Trinh many wonderful experiences.
She was used to staying up all night to watch the cat give birth. She took care of the kittens as meticulously and carefully as if they were a newborn baby.
She clearly remembers the schedule of feeding the cat milk every 4 hours, taking the cat for vaccinations, general checkups... Every day, she also spends time cleaning, wiping the cat's face, cutting its nails, bathing it, playing with it, and interacting with it so that it can easily adapt when it comes to its new owner.
“There are many happy memories, and the happiest was watching the kittens give birth. Watching them from birth until they are strong and active running around is a wonderful experience for me,” Trinh shared.
After the kittens are 3 months old and have received 2 doses of vaccination, Trinh will let them go to their new owners. Some cats are ordered by customers when they are newborns, or even when they are still in their mother's womb.
“The most important thing in this profession is passion and patience. Besides, you also need to love animals because if you don’t love or like them, you can’t take good care of them,” Trinh said.
