The Ministry of Education and Training requests that the Departments of Education and Training soon announce the third exam subject for grade 10 high school entrance exams.

The Ministry of Education and Training has just sent a document to the Departments of Education and Training regarding the selection and announcement of the third exam subject and guidance on admission criteria for junior high school and high school admissions.

The document clearly states that the Ministry of Education and Training has issued Circular No. 30/TT-BGD&DT dated December 30, 2024 promulgating the Regulations on Secondary School Admissions and High School Admissions. In which, the selection of the third subject or exam for high school admissions and specific instructions on admission criteria for secondary school admissions are the responsibility of the Department of Education and Training.

To effectively carry out enrollment work from the 2024-2025 school year according to the new regulations, the Ministry of Education and Training requests that the Departments of Education and Training urgently deploy the organization of selection and soon announce the third subject or exam according to regulations to facilitate students in studying, completing the program and reviewing, preparing well for conditions, creating a mentality of readiness to take the exam and achieving good results.

Previously, according to Circular 30 of the Ministry of Education and Training, there were 3 methods of admission to grade 10 of high school: entrance exam, admission review or a combination of entrance exam and admission review.

The choice of admission method is under local authority.

Regarding the entrance exam method for grade 10 high school, to ensure consistency and ensure the viewpoint of a light and inexpensive exam, the Circular generally stipulates the implementation of 3 subjects and exams, including: Math, Literature and 01 (one) third subject or exam selected by the Department of Education and Training.

The third exam subject is selected from among the subjects assessed by scores in the secondary school general education program, ensuring that the same third exam subject is not selected for more than 03 (three) consecutive years.

The third exam is a combination exam of a number of subjects selected from among the subjects assessed by scores in the secondary school general education program.

For high schools under the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes that organize their own entrance exams, the third exam subject or a combination exam of a number of remaining subjects will be selected by the Ministry of Education and Training, universities, colleges, and research institutes directly managed by them.

The third exam or combined exam of a number of subjects is announced after the end of semester I but no later than March 31 every year.

Regarding exam time, the Circular stipulates: Literature 120 minutes; Math 90 minutes or 120 minutes; third exam 60 minutes or 90 minutes; combined exam 90 minutes or 120 minutes.

The exam content is within the secondary school education program, mainly grade 9.
