On the evening of March 28, at the International Convention Center ( Hanoi ), President Luong Cuong hosted a solemn reception for President of the Federative Republic of Brazil Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is on a State visit to Vietnam.

Warmly welcoming President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the high-ranking delegation of the Federative Republic of Brazil on their State visit to Vietnam, President Luong Cuong affirmed that although Vietnam and Brazil are geographically far apart, they have long shared values of freedom, ideals and a strong desire for peace .

In the history of the struggle for freedom and national independence, the people of both countries have written heroic and glorious pages of history with an indomitable spirit and a desire to build a better future.

Recalling the event when President Ho Chi Minh, when he was young, lived and worked in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1912 on his journey to find a way to save the country, the President emphasized that it was a meaningful milestone in the exchange very early in the history of relations between the two nations.

The President said that the Vietnamese people always remember and cherish the solidarity and support that international friends have given to Vietnam in the struggle for national liberation and reunification, so that the Vietnamese people can live in peace, independence and development as they do today, and that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, a member of the “Vietnam Generation,” also participated in the anti-war movement, supporting peace, independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people.

The President affirmed that over the past three decades since the establishment of diplomatic relations, on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests in cooperation and common values of independence, freedom and development, and cultural and historical similarities, Brazil has now become Vietnam's first strategic partner in Latin America.

Pointing out that the two countries still have a lot of potential for cooperation in all fields, the President expressed satisfaction with the results of the talks between the two sides, especially the signing of the Action Plan to implement the Strategic Partnership for the 2025-2030 period.

The President hopes that in the near future, the exchange between the two countries will be further strengthened and expanded, the people and businesses of the two countries will cooperate more closely, trade more, travel more conveniently, and at the same time, the unique cultural values of Brazil will appear more in Vietnam, including our love for football, which is Brazil's strength.

The President firmly believes that, with the determination and efforts of both sides, the potential and opportunities for cooperation between the two countries will soon be materialized in the coming time, meeting the aspirations and interests of the people of the two countries.

In his response, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva expressed his gratitude to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for their warm and sincere welcome to the Brazilian high-ranking delegation and the honor of coming to Hanoi in a year filled with important events for the country and people of Vietnam.

Expressing pride that Brazil was part of President Ho Chi Minh's journey, the Brazilian President said that in 1912, the great leader of the Vietnamese people lived for three months in the Santa Teresa area and that the memory of this period inspired him to write an article about the story of the black and Pernambuco trade union leader José Leandro da Silva, in which he strongly condemned racism and defended the spirit of international solidarity, while also depicting that, despite being in different parts of the world, there are still important values that bind the two peoples together.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said that Vietnam and Brazil have taken different journeys, but with independence and determination, the two countries have achieved a common goal of protecting peace, multilateralism and international law.

Highlighting the goal of both countries to pursue the mission of sustainable development and the fight against poverty, the Brazilian President affirmed that this is also the reason why the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership by the end of 2024 and continued to be strengthened during this visit, as well as the common desire to enhance dialogue on global topics and expand bilateral cooperation in many fields.

Recalling the impressive statement of General Vo Nguyen Giap during his first visit to Vietnam in 2008 that “The true strength of a nation lies in the unity and will to overcome all challenges of the people,” the Brazilian President expressed his hope that the event of the two countries celebrating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024 will mark the beginning of a new period of friendship between Brazil and Vietnam, so that the two countries can together overcome the great challenges of the times./.
