Explosions occurred across the south and southern suburbs of Lebanon's capital Beirut, according to a security source and witnesses.
AFP news agency quoted a source close to the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon as saying that walkie-talkies used by members of the group exploded in their stronghold in the capital Beirut, during the funerals of Hezbollah members killed in the pager explosion.
The incident comes just a day after similar pager incidents left 12 people dead and about 2,800 injured.
Senior Hamas official Izzat al-Rasheq said the Israeli government was responsible for the consequences of the “continuous attack on Lebanon.” Israel has been accused by pro-Iranian movements in the Middle East of causing explosions of telecommunications equipment in Lebanon over the past two days, but the country has remained silent.
In response to these incidents, on September 18, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres expressed deep concern over the news of a series of explosions.
Mr. António Guterres urged all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint to avoid escalating tensions; called for a recommitment to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006) and an immediate cessation of all hostilities to restore order.
In addition, the UN declared its support for all diplomatic and political efforts to end actions that threaten to harm the region.
Meanwhile, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk demanded an "independent, comprehensive and transparent" investigation into the series of explosions to hold those involved "accountable".
He strongly condemned the series of explosions, saying the impact of the explosions on civilians was "unacceptable".
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights stated that all countries with influence in the region and internationally need to take immediate measures to prevent the current conflicts from spreading.
Also on September 18, Ambassador Samuel Zbogar, Head of the Slovenian delegation - the President of the UN Security Council - said that the agency will meet on September 20 about the explosions, at the request of Arab countries.
