Many people believe that spending on basic entertainment activities in the city during the holidays does not cost much and is therefore welcomed.
Bustling book street and zoo
According to Tuoi Tre Online on August 31, the first day of the National Day holiday of September 2, at the Zoo (District 1), the atmosphere became lively from early morning when many families and groups of friends came to visit.
Mr. Duc Dung (living in District 10) said that he and his group of friends decided to choose the Zoo as their destination after watching interesting videos about the animals there.
In particular, the story of the "love scandal" of the gray monkey couple giving birth to a yellow-haired monkey that looked like the monkey in the next cage attracted attention, making the group of friends even more curious.
Also choosing the Zoo as a place to relax with his family during the holiday, Mr. Le Van Quang (living in District 3) said that this year his family decided not to travel far, instead choosing to go to places in the city.
"We enjoy our time together at familiar places in the city. Although we are not too excited because we have been there many times, with our limited financial situation, this is the right choice," said Mr. Quang.

Speaking with Tuoi Tre Online on August 31, a representative of the Zoo said that thanks to the stable ticket prices and the unit diversifying its programs, especially this year increasing the number of stage shows, performances, etc., it has contributed to attracting more visitors.
Similarly, representatives of Suoi Tien Cultural Tourist Area and Dam Sen Cultural Park said that partly due to the strong increase in incentive programs and ticket discounts, the number of visitors on the first day exceeded expectations.
Meanwhile, on the first day of the September 2nd holiday, the book street in Ho Chi Minh City was bustling with customers as many families and young people came to buy books and school supplies to prepare for the new school year.
Ms. Nguyen Lan Anh (living in District 4) said that she wanted to take her daughter shopping at Book Street not only to help prepare for the school year but also to encourage her child's learning spirit.

On this occasion, the book street in Ho Chi Minh City has launched many preferential programs and special cultural activities to attract visitors.
Accordingly, a series of book exhibitions and introductions were held, focusing on works on national history and culture. Typical publications such as "The most beautiful Vietnam has Uncle Ho's name", "Uncle Ho wrote the Declaration of Independence", and many documents on Ho Chi Minh's heritage were introduced to visitors...
Shopping malls increase promotions but customers buy less
In contrast to the excitement at outdoor entertainment venues, the situation at shopping malls in the city is crowded in some places and deserted in others, especially purchasing power is quite low compared to sellers' expectations despite many promotional programs being launched.

Specifically, on August 31, at Vincom Dong Khoi (District 1), the number of customers coming to shop at many times was quite sparse, only concentrated in the dining and entertainment areas. Here, some stores, despite offering many promotions, had no visitors, even during the noon rush hour.
Similarly, at Diamond Plaza (District 1), a series of deep discount programs were also applied, but the number of customers coming to fashion stores was only sparse.
According to a representative of Diamond Plaza, the unit cooperates with many famous fashion and cosmetic brands such as Runway, Diptyque, Pandora, Menard and Valmont to launch discount promotions of up to 50% during the September 2 holiday.
In addition, other brands such as Elise, Furla, Kelly Bui, Pleats Kora, Lacoste, and Valentino Rudy also joined the deep discount, giving customers many attractive shopping options.
After being promoted, the selling price of these items is quite diverse, ranging from a few hundred thousand dong to a few million dong.
However, representatives of many stores said that purchasing power was only equivalent to a normal weekend, and sometimes even lower.

"The company set a revenue target of double that of normal days, but on August 31, it is likely to be the same as normal days. The remaining two days of the holiday, purchasing power may be better because not many people went out on the first day," said Nguyen Quoc Minh, a representative of a fashion store at Vincom Dong Khoi.
From a customer's perspective, Ms. Trinh Thi Yen (Thu Duc City) said that her family just bought a bottle of perfume with a 40% discount, and clothes were also on sale.
Meanwhile, at the jewelry and accessories booth at Diamond Plaza, thanks to various promotions from Thegioikimcuong, PNJ, Pandora, and Swarovski... the shopping scene was also bustling. However, some sellers said that many customers came to look around but did not buy much.
