In the context of a shortage of AI human resources in Vietnam, VNPT has built a strategy to develop a team of experts with the main driving force being the practical needs of the market.
At the Vietnam - Korea Digital Forum 2024 held on November 22 in Hanoi, Dr. Le Thai Hung, Director of Strategy VNPT AI, presented a panoramic picture of the challenges and solutions in developing high-quality AI human resources in Vietnam.
According to data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam currently has only about 700 people working in the field of AI, of which 300 are experts. This number is quite modest compared to the actual needs of the market, posing a big problem not only for VNPT but also for many technology corporations in Vietnam.

To solve this problem, VNPT has implemented an AI resource development strategy based on focusing on products with clear outputs, serving a large customer base, with increasingly strict and diverse requirements from the market.
"Five years ago, when human resources were still very limited, we realized that practical problems would create a strong AI team. We chose to develop AI products with the strictest and most diverse market requirements possible. When products have to compete and develop in the market, human resources will be trained in both quantity and quality," Dr. Hung emphasized.

According to Dr. Le Thai Hung, the decisive factor in the success of developing AI human resources at VNPT is the implementation method with a clear roadmap and goals. The group has built a strategy in each stage, continuously adjusting to suit market realities and technology trends. This flexible approach has helped VNPT both improve the skills of its employees, improve the quality of AI products and services on the market, and build a comprehensive VNPT AI ecosystem.
During its development, VNPT has faced a vibrant market from domestic and international solution providers. This forces VNPT engineers to affirm their quality through international certifications and standards. Typically, VNPT has achieved ISO 30107-3 certification on anti-fake face from iBeta and high rankings on the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) rankings. In 2024, this unit also won the Top 1 position at AI CITY Challenge 2024, the world's leading competition on AI image processing.

Thanks to the strategy of developing AI resources from practice, VNPT has gone through hundreds of AI projects, including projects with strict standards. This success not only helps VNPT overcome the common challenge of AI development resources in Vietnam but also accumulates in-depth knowledge of technology and operations in many fields such as healthcare, education, security, transportation, finance, etc.
