The image of grandmothers, mothers, and sisters working hard day and night to take care of their families is always a very special image to everyone. Especially in families that have lost their male breadwinners. And in the program “Vietnamese Family Home” there are many such women. Their stories have moved millions of viewers to tears.

In the program Vietnamese Family Home , many women moved the audience with their diligence, sacrifice, and care for their families. Especially in homes lacking men, these women have to take on many roles alone, their thin shoulders shouldering and protecting their children, grandchildren, and siblings so that the storms stop at the door.

“I am blind in one eye, but your future must be bright”

That is what Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (1982), in Le Thuy, Quang Binh always encourages herself every day. Ms. Hoa is the mother of Hoang Van Khoi (2015), a character in episode 123 of the program Vietnamese Family Home .

Her husband passed away after a long treatment for lung cancer, leaving Ms. Hoa to support the family alone. Unfortunately, she cannot see in one eye, and the other eye has only 4/10 vision, only seeing blurry, not seeing clearly, and not recognizing anyone. Despite many obstacles, Ms. Hoa still works hard to support her 3 children.

The eldest son is in 10th grade. Khoi is the second child, in 4th grade. The youngest son is in kindergarten, but because of a lack of nutrition, his health is not good, he speaks slowly and is sicker than his friends. Despite the hardships and difficulties, she has never thought of letting her children drop out of school.

To earn money to raise her children, Ms. Hoa worked as a hired hand harvesting acacia trees. Because of her poor eyesight, she was often hit by falling acacia trees and could not avoid them. Despite the hard work, she only earned about 200,000 VND/day. The work was unstable and depended heavily on the weather. Despite her poor health, Ms. Hoa rented more land to farm.

In the program Vietnamese Family Home , Ms. Hoa burst into tears because she felt sorry for her children. She only wished that she had enough health to continue working, to replace her husband in raising her children to be good people. In the face of difficult circumstances, Ms. Hoa did not give up but kept reminding herself that even though she was blind in one eye, even though she could no longer see her children's faces clearly, she would definitely let her children go to school. "The children must have a bright future," Ms. Hoa told herself.

She is the mother of parents, so she loves her grandchildren twice as much.

This saying that is trending on social networks is very suitable to talk about the situation of the three brothers Vu Quoc Bao, Vu Quoc Viet and Vu Quynh Mai in Tran Yen, Yen Bai.

Typhoon Yagi has long passed, but the pain of losing their parents still lingers on for the three brothers Quoc Bao. Both of their parents died in a landslide during Typhoon No. 3 (Typhoon Yagi) in 2024. On the day of the landslide, Bao and his brothers were at their maternal grandparents' house and escaped. After the incident, Quoc Bao and his younger brother lived with their grandmother, while his 6-year-old sister lived with their maternal grandparents. They only saw each other on weekends.

The children's paternal and maternal grandmothers are both old, but because they love their children and grandchildren, they cannot bear to send them to an orphanage and take them home to care for them. The maternal grandmother and the maternal grandfather make a living by growing cinnamon on the hill around the house. They work hard but do not earn much money. Bao's paternal grandmother is also old, but despite having many illnesses, she still takes care of the children's meals day and night.

At over 60 years old, these grandmothers once again become "mothers" by taking care of their grandchildren, comforting and encouraging them when they have trouble sleeping because they miss their mother and father.

The special "mother" of the children

One of the special “mothers” of the Vietnamese Family Shelter is Vu Thi Loan, from Hoa Lu, Ninh Binh. Loan was born in 2002, the eldest of four sisters. Loan is called a special “mother” because she currently has to work every day to earn money to raise her three younger sisters.

Their parents divorced when they were young. Not long after, their mother became mentally ill and stayed at her maternal grandparents' house, unable to work to support her children. Loan and her three younger sisters were taken care of by their father from then on. Ironically, their father suffered from many illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure, pneumonia and nervous system problems, and he passed away after a while. Just 17 days later, their grandfather, who was taking care of them, also passed away. Their mother was mentally ill and could not take care of her younger siblings. Since then, Loan's four sisters have only known how to depend on each other.

As the eldest sister, Loan takes on the responsibility of taking care of her younger siblings. Although she dreams of becoming a doctor, due to her family's difficult circumstances, she was forced to drop out of school in the 9th grade. Currently, she works at a shoe company, 10km from home, to earn money to take care of her younger siblings.

Every day, Loan works from 7am to 9pm, earning about 6 million VND/month. All living expenses in the family currently depend on Loan's income alone. There are days when the family runs out of food, Loan buys 5,000 VND of pork fat, boils it and eats it with rice to get through the meal. The girl in her early 20s alone struggles to earn money to raise three children, making everyone feel sorry for her.

Not only Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Vu Thi Loan or Quoc Bao's grandmother, but also in the Vietnamese Family Shelter program, there are many special women who have devoted their lives to caring for orphans. And the Vietnamese Family Shelter program with the mission of "Bringing happiness to share with the community" is still traveling across the country to give more motivation to these resilient women to overcome adversity.

As one of the hosts of Vietnamese Family Home , MC Duong Hong Phuc cried many times because of sympathy for the situations in the program. Besides understanding the children, the male MC said that he was also impressed with the mothers and grandmothers in the program. “Standing and listening to the children share, I felt very sorry. There are grandmothers over 80 years old who still collect scrap metal, carry heavy loads, etc. to earn money to raise their grandchildren. And in this program, there are many women like that, having to take care of the whole family without caring about their own health. Every time I ask the children in the program what they want, they just want their grandmothers and mothers to be healthy so they can stay by their side longer. I am very touched,” said Duong Hong Phuc.

MC Hong Phuc added that the love of grandmothers, mothers or sisters in the program will be a great motivation for the children in the program to overcome difficulties in life. He will accompany the Vietnamese Family Shelter , always being a support to support these special women to take good care of the young buds of the country.

The program Vietnamese Family Warmth airs at 8:20 p.m. every Friday on HTV7. The program is produced by Bee Media Company in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City Television, with the support of Hoa Sen Home Construction Materials & Interior Supermarket System (Hoa Sen Group) and Hoa Sen Plastic Pipe - Source of Happiness.
