Cong Giap (from Nghe An) and his partner Son Thach are two of the familiar members of the African group who have been with Quang Linh Vlogs for many years in Angola.
In addition to supporting local people in farming, the two also regularly cook typical Vietnamese dishes to introduce to local people such as: stir-fried beans with chicken gizzards, pig ear salad, roast pork, chicken rice, grilled pork vermicelli, etc.
In their most recent video posted on their YouTube channel, which has more than 580,000 subscribers, Cong Giap and Son Thach went to Maiala village and cooked a traditional Vietnamese meal to entertain the parish priest, the village chief, and a local resident.
Having experience in cooking, Mr. Thach took charge of cooking, while Cong Giap helped with some chores and assisted the priest in arranging furniture to repair the house.
Mr. Thach introduced the meal will be cooked in Vietnamese style with some familiar dishes such as fried tofu, fried fish and boiled water spinach. The dishes are all prepared simply, dipped in a special salty fish sauce.
After a while of waiting, the dishes were cooked. Cong Giap placed a table and chairs in the large yard and served the food. The members sat together in a warm atmosphere.
Everyone was excited about the hot, fragrant dishes.
“A simple Vietnamese-style meal has arrived in a mountainous village in Africa,” Cong Giap humorously introduced. He also did not forget to ask the members about today’s special meal.
The first time he experienced a traditional Vietnamese meal, the priest in Maiala village said that Angolans usually only eat one dish, cornmeal, and serve it on a plate. “If there is fish or sauce, they also put it on the plate to eat together,” the priest said.
The village chief could not help but be moved because "it was the first time he saw so much food on the table".
After listening to the villagers' stories, Cong Giap also shared a few things about Vietnamese eating culture. That is, Vietnamese people always serve food on bowls and plates and the menu changes daily, with dishes such as meat or fish, vegetables, and soup.
“People rarely put all the food on a plate and give each person a plate, but instead arrange it on the table like this,” Cong Giap said.
While sharing, he introduced the ingredients, components as well as how to enjoy the dish so that Angolan people can better understand Vietnamese cuisine.
Sitting around two Vietnamese people and enjoying a traditional meal, the African people could not hide their excitement. They also expressed their emotion at the warm family-like atmosphere and continuously exclaimed "so delicious".
“This was the most delicious and beautiful meal I have ever had. This is the first time I have eaten like this, so I want to learn and use chopsticks like the Vietnamese,” the priest said.
“This is the first time in my life that I have had such delicious food. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. I will go back and tell my villagers about today’s meal, the most complete meal I have ever had,” the village chief added.
The couple also thanked Cong Giap and Son Thach for taking the time to cook a delicious meal and create a warm family atmosphere.
