Interbank interest rates in VND fluctuate in opposite directions

According to reports from credit institutions and foreign bank branches through the statistical reporting system, last week, transaction turnover in the interbank market in VND reached nearly VND 2,555,765 billion, an average of VND 511,153 billion/day, an increase of VND 16,788 billion/day compared to the previous week.

Meanwhile, transaction turnover in USD converted to VND reached about 540,692 billion VND, an average of 108,138 billion VND/day, an increase of 250 billion VND/day.

By maturity, VND transactions mainly focus on overnight (78% of total VND transaction turnover), 1-week (19%), and the rest are other terms. For USD transactions, the terms with the largest turnover are overnight and 1-week with proportions of 69% and 25% respectively.

Regarding interest rates, for transactions in VND, the average interest rate fluctuated in different directions in some key terms compared to the previous week. Specifically, the average overnight interest rate increased by 0.22%/year to 4.33%/year. In contrast, the average interest rate for 1 week and 1 month terms decreased by 0.32%/year and 0.40%/year to 4.11%/year and 4.16%/year, respectively.

For USD transactions, the average interest rate fluctuated little, decreasing slightly in most terms compared to the previous week. Specifically, the average overnight interest rate remained unchanged compared to the previous week, remaining at 4.30%/year; the 1-week and 1-month terms decreased by 0.02%/year and 0.24%/year to 4.31%/year and 4.15%/year, respectively.
