3cm long sewing needle in patient's wrist in Quang Nam
Accordingly, at 8:00 a.m. the same day (December 20), the Emergency Department of Quang Nam General Hospital received patient Ph.MH (52 years old, in Tien My commune, Tien Phuoc district, Quang Nam province), with symptoms of severe pain in the left wrist, numbness in the wrist, and a wound on the front of the wrist but no bleeding.
Foreign body in suture needle was successfully removed
The patient stated that 3 days ago, while washing mosquito nets, a needle pricked the front of his left wrist, so he went to the hospital for a check-up.
After preoperative tests, the patient was admitted to the Surgical Anesthesia Department.
Here, the doctors and surgical team successfully removed a foreign object, a 3cm long sewing needle, located close to the edge of the radial artery in the patient's wrist.
Doctor Tu said that the surgery was difficult because the metal foreign object was small, hidden in the tendons, not fixed in one place, and very difficult to remove.
In addition, when entering the body, depending on movement, the needle can move to many different organs such as muscles and joints, endangering life and making needle removal surgery very difficult.
