A 15-month-old child in Nghe An was playing with a screw and swallowed it. Fortunately, the child's parents discovered it in time and took him to the hospital for intervention.
On February 6, information from Minh An General Hospital (Nghe An) said that doctors at the hospital had just performed an emergency esophageal and gastric endoscopy under anesthesia, successfully removing a 5cm long screw from the stomach of a 15-month-old patient.
Previously, a 15-month-old patient living in An Hoa commune (Quynh Luu district, Nghe An) was taken to the hospital by his family in a condition suspected of swallowing a screw into his stomach.
According to the child’s father, on the evening of February 5, the child was playing with two screws. A while later, the child’s parents discovered that only one screw remained. Suspecting that the child had swallowed the screw, the family immediately took the child to the hospital for examination.
After taking X-rays and ultrasounds, doctors determined that the child had swallowed the screw into his stomach. Immediately afterwards, doctors performed a procedure to remove the foreign object under anesthesia. After 15 minutes, the endoscopy team successfully removed the 5cm long screw from the child's stomach.
Doctors said that fortunately the child was discovered and treated promptly. Otherwise, the foreign object could have moved into the intestines, causing many dangerous complications such as intestinal perforation, bleeding, etc., and the surgery would have become much more complicated.
