On February 22, doctors at the Quang Ngai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital performed a digestive endoscopy and successfully removed a foreign object, a soft drink can lid about 5cm in diameter, from the baby's stomach.
On the same morning, an 11-year-old boy (residing in Tinh Chau commune, Quang Ngai city) was taken by relatives to Quang Ngai Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital in a state of choking and chest pain.
Through information from the patient's family and clinical examination, X-ray, ultrasound of the chest and abdomen, the pediatric gastroenterologist determined that there was a foreign object in the patient's digestive tract.
Immediately afterwards, the patient was transferred to the anesthesia and resuscitation department to perform a procedure to remove the foreign body. An aluminum soda can lid was successfully removed.
This is a rare case where the foreign object is a large, sharp soft drink can lid. Removing the foreign object from the stomach is difficult, causing pain, scratches, and bleeding in the esophagus and stomach of the child patient.
The patient's health is now stable, with reduced symptoms of chest pain and choking. The doctor will continue to stay in the pediatric gastroenterology department for monitoring.
After discovering and removing the above huge foreign object, the doctor also reminded parents that when their child swallows a foreign object or suspects a foreign object in the airway, digestive tract, etc., they should urgently take the child to a specialized hospital for examination and earliest intervention to avoid danger to life.
