An 11-year-old boy in Quang Ngai swallowed a soft drink can cap, leading to chest pain, scratches and bleeding in the esophagus.
On February 22, the Quang Ngai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital announced that its doctors had successfully treated an 11-year-old patient who swallowed a soft drink can cap into his stomach. The patient's health is now stable and he is being monitored in the Pediatric Gastroenterology Department.
Doctors removed a soda can lid from the stomach of an 11-year-old boy.
Accordingly, on the same morning, an 11-year-old boy from Tinh Chau commune (Quang Ngai city, Quang Ngai province) was taken by his family to the Quang Ngai Provincial Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital in a state of choking and chest pain.
Through clinical examination, chest and abdominal X-rays, and ultrasound, doctors determined that there was a foreign object in the child's digestive tract. Immediately after, the child was transferred to the Anesthesia and Resuscitation Department to perform a procedure to remove the foreign object. Here, doctors removed the aluminum soda can lid from the child's stomach.

According to doctors, the process of removing the foreign object was difficult because the aluminum cap had many sharp corners, causing pain, scratches and bleeding in the child's esophagus and stomach.
"The above case is a reminder to parents. When a child swallows a foreign object or is suspected of having a foreign object in the airway or digestive tract, the child should be taken to a specialized hospital for examination and timely intervention," a doctor at the Quang Ngai Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital recommended.
