(Dan Tri) - Checking a truck parked at the train station, Quang Tri authorities discovered 640 metal cylinders containing N2O gas, a gas used to pump into "laughing balloons" that is banned in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of January 24, Dong Ha City Police, Quang Tri Province, said they were continuing to investigate the case of transporting large quantities of N2O gas, also known as "laughing gas".

Previously, the authorities inspected a truck with license plate 89F-006.05 driven by Phan Ngoc Xich (50 years old, residing in Binh Dinh province). The truck was parked at Dong Ha station to transfer goods.

Upon inspection, the police discovered 640 metal cylinders containing N2O gas in the truck’s cargo hold. The driver and the evidence were detained for legal action.

This is the largest-scale "laughing gas" transportation case ever discovered in Quang Tri.

“Laughing gas,” also known as Funkyballs, are balloons filled with N2O gas. This is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless compound. When inhaled, users can experience euphoria, uncontrollable laughter, and even hallucinations.

Since January 1, Vietnam has officially banned the production, trading, import, transportation, storage and use of "laughing gas". This decision was made in the context that this gas is increasingly becoming a threat to public health, especially for young people.
