“Last night, March 5, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our platforms. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible and are very sorry for any inconvenience this caused.”
That is the content that Meta's spokesperson informed the reporter after the question "Does Facebook consider compensating for damages to customers who are running sales ads and promoting brands on this social networking platform?".
On the evening of March 5 (Vietnam time), users of the world's largest social network suddenly encountered a problem with their Facebook accounts being logged out and unable to log back in.
Along with that, Instagram accounts also cannot load new content, and Threads shows an error message asking to access again.
This incident reminded many people of a similar incident that happened in 2021, when Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp crashed for several hours.
For those who use Facebook for entertainment purposes, the incident that happened last night hardly affected them. However, for those who do business on the Facebook platform, the incident last night caused some damage to them.
Speaking to VietNamNet, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Khanh, an agent specializing in advertising services on the Facebook platform, said: Meta's apology to users is appropriate. Users also cannot ask Meta to take any responsibility.
“This is their playground, people come and go. Personally, I think the recent incident is understandable,” said Mr. Khanh.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vu Khanh Toan, Director of Pencco Vietnam and Senior Strategic Advisor at Kobler Vietnam, said that the company's brands are running ads on Facebook, but the company did not record any damage from the social network's incident on the night of March 5.
As a person who regularly livestreams to sell products online, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thuan (Trung Hoa, Cau Giay, Hanoi) shared that the Facebook crash happened near midnight so it did not affect his livestream.
“However, we and our customers have been disconnected for a certain period of time. It is possible that if customers cannot connect with us during this time, they will stop placing orders. This loss is incalculable,” Mr. Thuan worried.
According to Mr. Thuan, online sellers have long considered Facebook as their biggest sales channel, so a problem with this social network, even for a short time, will certainly cause damage to them.
DailyMail quoted a source as saying that Meta's internal system was also down, which could have led to problems on Facebook.
Shortly after, Mark Zuckerberg apologized to his 3.5 billion users.
On the LAB Bible news site, writer Joe Harker commented that the Facebook incident was the result of a "cyber attack" and was claimed by the famous hacker group Anonymous.
Anonymous said Metal lost nearly $257,000 every minute that the social network's services were down.
However, according to a Meta spokesperson, this is a "technical issue".
