Do not let the collapse of the Suoi Nhum bridge beam affect the progress of Bien Hoa expressway

The leaders of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province requested a detailed report on the accident that caused the collapse of the Suoi Nhum bridge girder. At the same time, they requested the construction unit to take responsibility for all additional costs, especially ensuring the project's progress.

On the morning of January 2, regarding the incident of a crane wheel colliding and causing the collapse of many girders of Suoi Nhum Bridge on the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Component 3 project, Mr. Nguyen Cong Vinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, had a meeting with relevant parties. The above incident occurred on December 31, 2025.

A section of highway through Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is under continuous construction.

According to the report from the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Area Traffic Project Management Board, Suoi Nhum Bridge was constructed by Hoa Binh 479 Joint Stock Company and supervised by Thang Long Construction Quality Supervision Consulting Joint Stock Company. By December 31, 2024, the project had completed the entire pile foundation structure and bridge abutments, and completed casting 40 I33 girder slabs (reaching 70% of the project volume).

Completed items have been constructed and accepted in accordance with approved design documents. Construction equipment has been inspected and personnel involved in operating machines and construction have appropriate training certificates.

On the same day, at 11:15 a.m., when the first girder span was installed, during the movement, the crane with license plate number 50LA-4477 slipped, reversed and hit the right side girder, causing the girder to fall in a domino effect, causing the entire girder system to fall off the pillar and crack...

Upon receiving the information, the Cai Mep - Thi Vai Port Traffic Project Management Board, together with representatives of the Construction Contractor and the Supervision Consultant, drew up a record confirming the incident and preliminarily assessing the cause of the incident as being due to negligence during the construction of Suoi Nhum Bridge. At the same time, they agreed to move all girders out of the construction site. The Contractor also committed to correcting the girder installation process and compensating for damaged girders at the Contractor's expense and the Construction Insurance Unit's expense to ensure the quality and progress of the project.

The Project Management Board also worked with the contractor, reminding the construction work to ensure safety and avoid incidents.

After listening to reports from the units, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Cong Vinh requested the Project Management Board to continue reporting in detail and specifically on the incident, re-evaluating the construction preparation process in terms of techniques, site, safety, machine placement, operators... to gain experience. From there, there will be appropriate construction solutions, ensuring safety according to the plan.

At the same time, regularly inspect, monitor and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to promptly handle issues during project construction.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the construction unit to take responsibility for all arising costs and try to handle related issues so as not to affect the project's construction progress.
