Hang Trong paintings are a type of folk paintings that express the refined aesthetic taste of the ancient Hanoians. Not only carrying out conservation work, many artisans and artists have exploited the material of Hang Trong paintings in artistic creation. That is the content of the exhibition "Dialogue with Hang Trong folk paintings" held at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam.
On the afternoon of July 6, at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic site (Dong Da district, Hanoi), the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam coordinated with relevant individuals and units to organize the exhibition "Dialogue with Hang Trong folk paintings".
Hang Trong folk paintings are one of the unique lines of paintings, carrying cultural values and expressing the need to enjoy the refined culture of ancient Hanoians.
The technique of making Hang Trong paintings requires meticulousness, dexterity, elaboration and artistry.
If other folk paintings mainly use mass printing techniques, with Hang Trong paintings, the artisan must combine printing, drawing and especially color mixing techniques.
The unique artworks of this genre of painting are not only closely associated with the daily life of Vietnamese people, but also leave a deep impression on the world public.
Participating in the exhibition are 38 plastic works by 22 authors made on silk, lacquer, do paper, oil painting and 29 Hang Trong folk paintings on do paper. The content of the works reflects the unique features in the cultural and religious life of the Vietnamese people.
Through the exhibition, the Organizing Committee hopes to promote the beauty of this unique painting genre to a wide range of traditional art lovers, especially the young generation and international tourists.
This is also an opportunity to introduce artistic products crystallized from the process of discovery and creation based on the artistic value of Hang Trong painting heritage in particular and traditional national culture in general.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Mr. Le Xuan Kieu - Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam said: "The exhibition "Dialogue with Hang Trong folk paintings" was formed based on the tireless efforts of artisans and painters in the journey of preserving and promoting this genre of paintings in contemporary life. The exhibition is also a driving force for personal creations, contributing to promoting today's young generation to learn and inherit the quintessence of traditional art from their ancestors".
The exhibition runs until July 31, 2023 at the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam.
