On the morning of April 12, at Lam Dong Provincial Library, the Department of Information and Communications coordinated with the Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Education and Training to organize the opening ceremony of the 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Lam Dong province in 2024.

This is an activity in response to the Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day according to the decision of the Prime Minister. The 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Lam Dong province was organized with many practical activities to honor readers, creators, publishers, printers, distributors, libraries, book keepers, collectors, promoters and organizations and individuals who have contributed to the development of reading culture in the community.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham S, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee emphasized, "Organizing Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day in Lam Dong province in 2024 and in the following years will create a series of cultural activities associated with books. It is a place to crystallize, converge and spread the love of books to all classes of people, creating an increasingly closer connection between books and readers, towards building and developing a reading culture in community life. This is also an opportunity for units operating in the field of publishing and distribution to have the opportunity to promote, introduce products and develop their brands, thereby contributing to the development of the book industry in particular and the publishing industry in general".

Some main activities took place during the opening ceremony such as visiting the exhibition space, introducing books; telling stories based on books; awarding prizes for the online quiz contest "Learning about the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu victory - The song that echoes forever"; In addition, within the framework of the program, the Department of Information and Communications also donated books to the provincial library and Da Lat University.

Also at the program, the Vice Chairman of the province called on each organization, individual, and local sectors to join hands to contribute to building a reading movement, aiming to build a learning society and lifelong learning, and for students to actively participate in the contest "Reading Culture Ambassador 2024" of Lam Dong province taking place in April this year.

According to statistics, currently, for the public reading service system, Lam Dong province has one provincial library, 10 district libraries, 548 libraries, communal reading rooms and a system of school libraries in the area, with a total of more than 291,543 copies/97,181 book titles. In addition to traditional printed documents, there are 28,799 electronic documents serving readers via the Internet, over 65,459 copies of books in the mobile bookstore, especially more than 45,497 copies of books for children. Every year, 10,000 new books are built, supplemented and updated in the bookstores, 150 types of newspapers and magazines, thereby contributing to serving the needs of learning, research, study and enjoyment of reading culture of the people, especially students.
